When is an focal going to go online like thomond student times?
I don't like reading yesterdays news next week. The need to go online is highlighted in page 3 of the current issue

    http://www.issuu.com/ulsu/docs/af_xx_3

I really hope PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) didn't have to pay for that week old ad....

Twil certainly be online somewhat soon- there were legalities procuring anfocal.ie as somebody else registered it and a process followed...

    The domain currently appears unregistered...

You don't require the domain anyway. A subdomain could be used 'à la' anfocal.ulsu.ie
I'm not sure legalities answers any part of the OPs question/point

It will appear unregistered if there's an application pending (which there is).

Registration is a matter of hours, not days.

Would I be right in saying the pending is because you haven't successfully fulfilled the IEDRs registration policy?

They wanted various types of documentation which had to be posted away so it will take several days indeed.

They asked is An Focal going online- I answered yes with a reason for the delay....

So when is this going online? I expected since we were one edition shorter this year that at least with the 2 free weeks (which would have been taken up by making another paper) the site could be up and running...

http://anfocal.ie/ still not up and running yet (2 months later!)... seriously if you have bought the domain, redirect it to the online editions as a temporary measure.

Looks like it will be up and running early next week

So now that extensive efforts have been made to bring it online are any of the complainers going to thank the Comms team or are you compiling the list of what could be wrong with it when it launches?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,213 ✭✭✭MajesticDonkey

There won't be anything wrong when it launches. :)

I agree. I cant imagine much or anything being wrong when it launches.

After all, it is kinda hard to screw up a wordpress site

It's easy to screw up when you don't know what you're doing.

Although it's wordpress, there are a lot of external features which need to be tested thoroughly before going public.

Well I would hope that the comms office is getting someone who knows what they are doing. Although wordpress does hold your hand through a lot of the basics.

That's good to here. Explains why it has taken so long.

What external features will the site be using ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,213 ✭✭✭MajesticDonkey

Not so much "external", but the theme uses a lot of wordpress' built-in functions that aren't used too often in most themes. A few custom plugins as well.

The person who did it doesn't need his hand held- in fact quite a lot of credit is due.

He's doing the new ULFM site too.

not too soon but good to see ti finally go up, haven't been one of the "complainers" but its used to vex me getting out of date news on an focal most weeks so it will be nice. Wonder what impact this will have on TST???

good luck with the launch to all concerned
