    Hi all

I had Saorview until I got Sky a few months ago. The digital text worked fine with Saorview but since getting Sky the text feature does not work.

I press tv and then text but just get message 'not available'

Is it the tv or Sky box I wonder?

    Any ideas welcome.

    Thanks

    Bull

Digital text won't work on RTE on Sky through the HDMI lead. The old Aertel system will work through the aerial on my TV.

I know I wouldn't get the digital text through Sky, all I want is the Aertel text but cant unfortunately.

try run a lead from the analog output on your sky box to your tv,then tune your tv to ch 68 ,that should work

Or a scart cable also used to carry the text for me until I went HDMI!

That's what I meant with my original post btw, posted from my phone earlier and reading it now it doesn't seem too clear. I get aertel on Sky while watching sky through the aerial.

If your tv is saorview compatible then use that for RTE text and then switch to the HDMI for sky reception.HDMI won't work with the old fashioned Aertel service (who uses that still?)

    as well as Sky subscribers..
    viewers of analogue terrestrial.
Everyone receiving RTE from cable (digital as well as analogue) or MMDS
non-Saorview approved MPEG4 DTT receivers which cannot do MHEG5.

It all adds up to a much greater figure for the time being than have/use MHEG5 on Saorview

Its a pity that Skyboxes don't have built-in decoding of 'traditional' teletext (as well as passing it in the VBI as normal on SCART + RF outputs) avoiding the HDMI issue

UPC digital boxes have built-in teletext decoding
And cheap FTA satellite boxes (from Lidl etc) nearly all do it too.
