With the Government landfill levy now increased to €50 per ton from the beginning of September I'm wondering should waste companies be charging VAT on this or should it be at a zero rate?

Call it tax on tax if you like , but the vat must be charged on this at the appropriate rate , and it is definately not zero %

Sure a sizeable portion of the cost of lots of things (eg. fags, booze and petrol) are govt duties, but VAT is still charged on them.

All was illegal under EU law back in the day, but instead of banning the practice, the Heads Of State quickly recognised a Cash Cow when they saw one,and incorporated into tax law:mad::mad::mad:
