Well we're only settling back down after this years championships and here we go already on 2012. I always found it strange this draw is made so early anyone know the reason for it being done 7 months prior to the 1st game? More interestingly anyone care to give early predictions prior to the draw? Hard to make insightful predictions before we see a ball kicked and how teams have wintered in terms of dark horses, favourites etc, but sure il have an wild crack at it!

    Football:
    Connacht: Mayo
    Leinster: Dublin
    Munster: Cork
    Ulster: Derry

    All-Ireland: Kerry

    Hurling:
    Leinster: Dublin
    Munster: Tipperary

    All-Ireland: Kilkenny

Clare vs Waterford Munster Hurling semi-final. Now that would be something to look forward to.

Maybe even in the first round, Cork and Tipp also have to play in either the first round or semi finals.

The Munster Council know that they will get a good attendance for a Munster Final in hurling regardless of who is in it. They will also want to get the Championship off to a high profile start and have at least one semi final that will attract a good attendance. Therefore Waterford and Clare have to meet because of the Davy Connection, just as Waterford and Limerick had to meet in 2009 because of Justin's connections with both teams, as will Cork and Tipp because of the crowds they can pull, especially now that Tipp are Munster Finals and Jimmy Barry-Murphy is back with Cork.

What I would really love is if Waterford and Cork meet in Munster, now that would be a treat. I've been going to Munster championship matches for years now, and theres nothing like waterford and cork, they bring out the best in each other. Now that JBM is back with cork, I reckon they have a great chance of being successful this year so I would watch out for them. Roll on Championship 2012 :D:D

Hard to get excited this far out. Leinster looks ok for Dubs to me, good chance of getting replay of this years final at semi stage..

    Westmeath/ Louth v Dublin

    Plays

    Longford/Laois v Wexford

    Meath/Wicklow v Carlow

    Plays

Offaly v Kildare in other semi.

Couldn't have gotten much of a better draw for Clare, fact is in both grades we are both the weakest team in the draw so straight into the semi's while missing out on Tipp in the hurling and Kerry/Cork in the football.

I'm happier about the football, we were very close to pulling off a win against Down.

    Thanks

    Connacht

    New York v Sligo

    London v Leitrim

    Galway v Roscommon

    Mayo v London / Leitrim

New York / Sligo v Galway / Roscommon

Mayo should win another title with that draw.

    Munster

    Semi : Clare v Waterford / Limerick

    Qtr : Waterford v Limerick

    Semi : Cork v Kerry / Tipperary

    Qtr : Kerry v Tipperary

    Semi is the final.

    DONE!

Bring it on! Will they bring it to Thurles again? Maybe this is the game that will kick start Clare success for the next few years. Serious chance if we have it in Limerick and with Davy's inside knowledge.

How is Cork not in the quarter finals? So tis likely cork meet kerry for the semi final without meeting limerick? Similar to out counties like mayo and kildare and offaly not meeting other teams till the semi finals, hows that is that just how the draw went? Didn't watch it mind. Just read on RTE website. Is there still a back-door system if Kerry predicted for the all Ireland final for next year again?

Ive a slight suspicion of a Davey inspired Clare rise in Munster, its been too long in the doldrums for the Banner men this will be a cracking game, a win will not only put them in the Munster decider but garuntee an All-Ireland quarter final spot, a win over the Deise will prove a big step out of the shadows and I feel its really on the cards in 2012 as the start of the return!

Davey already has a backroom team of 15 in place, it'll be a lot cheaper if the game is on in Limerick, we'll need 2 buses after all.

Back on topic, Clare will be coming out of a season of division 2, both teams will have a new manager in place, Waterford will be big time favourites, but you can always dream, as mentioned, the winner automatically have an All Ireland Quarter Final to look forward to

Inside knowledge of the opposition is priceless though, Waterford could be undone by this factor mentally as well as tactically. Wish this game was this weekend

No, they have decided that having to face Wicklow in the semis would be too big a challenge to overcome. They may enter again in 2013, if they are not drawn to play the garden county.

After the munster final, some would question how much he actually knows about the Waterford players...

Lets worry about getting over Waterford first. I have no doubt we have the players and the manager for that, but thats the main focus for the year now, as well as whatever they (Croke Park) do with the League. Being back in a Munster Final is a huge thing. That has to be the main aim going into 2012. We have great young players who have been thrown into the deep end much earlier than they would have been in other counties and they need something to kick start their collective inter-county careers. This is it. If they come out the other side of that game as winners, that will drive their confidance sky high. But lets not talk of Munster yet. The only focus now should be on beating Waterford.

Last years provincal runner up's get an automatic place in the semi finals.Thats why Cork are straight into Semis, as they were beaten by Kerry in the final last year.

Very happy with the draw as a Limerick supporter. We get to bypass Tipp,Kerry and Cork until the final. If we have a squad back to full fitness and no more injuries, then we have a reasonable chance of winning Munster this year.

anybody else think the dublin hurlers got the bad side of the leinster draw?:(
Have to play kilkenny in the leinster semi - final, which potentially means we are looking at the qualifiers  And that is definetly a potential banana skin that many a team have slipped on in the qualifiers.

?? You were all over tipp too and would have been a lot closer in the end only for philly. Couple of handy enough goals.

It's funny, that's a good time to catch kilkenny, Dublin (if they get through) will have a game under their belt so in with a good chance of beating cats.

Last time Kilkenny lost in Leinster was in a semi final (any excuse to post this video ;) )

It was a cracker alright but the reality is all it served to do was anger KK and they went on to dominate the hurling landscape like no team before, well done Wexford, and some people say ye contributed nothing in the last 10 years :p

ah Galway had their hand in it too, scoring 5 goals on them the year after! imagine getting beaten by Galway and Wexford in sucessive years, no wonder they went mad!

What Wexford did that year was to come out and run at Kilkenny. Tipperary did much the same last year. That's how to beat them.

    *makes note* r u n a t K i l k e n n y *end note*

genius. dont know how anyone didnt think of those tactics before. they wont know what hit them with all these teams running at them next year.:pac:

to be honest, running at Kilkenny was the last thing Wexford did that year. They didnt have the physicality to match them throughout the field, and their game plan was more about moving the ball quick and not settling on it. The split the wing forwards and took the centre forward out of play, and the Kilkenny half backs were lost as to who would pick up who on puck outs. hence you now see Kilkennys half backs take a zone, rather than go for a man on puck outs. Wexford exploited this in a huge way that day. You also had Adrian fenlon in midfield who pretty much didnt touch the ball with his hand that day. He was probably the last good ground hurler to have played, and kept moving the ball without hesitation in the middle sector. it created a quick ball into the KK backs, who witht he constant movement, werent sure how to react.

An tbf on a more serious note there was a bit more too it than that, that KK team in 2003-2005 was no where near the team of the last 6 years, yes you are right both Wexford and Galway showed that if you ran at them they were vunrable and then Cork completely re-invented their style to counter KK, but this is what imo makes KK the greatest team ever, they simply went back to the drawing board and re-ivented themselves and changed how they hurled they combined physicality with movement, something with the exception of Tipp last year no-one else has ever been close to emulating, Cody deserves great credit for this.

But yeah its still all them strawberrie picking hillbillies fault :p
