IP4 on Meteor

Used to have an iPhone 3gs on Vodafone before switching to a Sony Xperia Arc. Really dislike it and Android so want to switch back to iPhone. Don't think the new iPhone4S has anything new I'm particularly interested in for the price it'd probably be.

Was looking at the iPhone4 on Meteor (my contract with Vodafone ends in two months so would only have to pay about €80 cancellation fee to switch, and the sale of the Xperia Arc would more than cover it). Coverage here (out in the sticks) is poor at best on Vodafone so not expecting anything great reception-wise. Just heard that Meteor place some restrictions on some bits of the phone and you can't access some of the settings. Just wondering if anyone had any information or experiences about this, or general overall thoughts on Meteor

    Cheers

you need to get your hands an a Meteor PAYG sim card and check it for a week to see if you get better or worse signals from your location. Vodafone have amongs the best network out there imo and if you have trouble with vodafone then Meteor may be a problem too.

In my dads shop, he can answer his Vodafone phone in certain locations and still have clear reception, where i have to go out the back of the shop to have the same receoption on my meteor handset.

    where did you hear this?
AFAIK Meteor place no more restrictions than Vodafone, 3, O2 etc as all they do is send out a carrier file which locks the APN settings etc dont see why you would want to change them anyhow?

On my current phone, after I updated it it was searching for the network and could find O2 and Meteor, but took a while to find Vodafone. Think I have an old phone at home though so might do as you said and just get a Meteor sim to try it for a while. I just can't imagine Meteor being any worse than Vodafone where I live. Have to hang out the bedroom window to make/take calls, and that wasn't fun last winter.

It was just something someone heard their workmate say, but they weren't sure what it meant. Just said I'd throw it out there if anyone had heard anything similar.

I called Vodafone yesterday to check how much it'd be to cancel my account. I'd be due an upgrade in December so if they reduced the price of the iPhone4 when the new one comes out and gave me the upgrade early so I could get it for free (or close enough), I might stick with them depending on the reception I get from Meteor.

I guess only if you're changing networks with the same phone.

Here's some links anyway - doesn't work for me though as it looks like the option to change the settings has been removed, even though the phone is now network unlocked

but if you change networks with the same phone, when you put the O2 sim in, it will auto get the O2 carrier settings, so its not needed as such.

My phone is factory unlocked, if i put a meteor sim in i get a messege with the carrier settings, but if i put a Vodafone sim in i aslo get the carrier settings, but you can choose not to accept these and still claim control of your network APN settings.

That didn't seem to work for me, but maybe the meteor SIM needs data to be enabled.

I posted on the Vodafone forum, and they said that if I sync with iTunes with the new card, it should auto-update. So a couple of things for me to try at least.

Iv been on metoer for about 2 years and have had my iphone with them for about 18 months, Ive had no issues with signal or 3g coverage.

No restrictions on the phone afaik.

Plus on bill the value is pretty good. At the moment im paying €50 P/M FOR 400 mins and 400 text + 2 gig of data.

Although I think they might have changed their smart phone plans.
