So I'm thinking of buying a Kindle but I just wanted to know what people think of them.

I have a lot of ebooks stored on my Laptop is it easy to save them onto it? Which place online is the best place to get one and which Kindle would you recommend?

They have just reduced the price, there is a big feature on the homepage at the minute. Amazon is the only place to get one, why would you go anywhere else? Its their gadget.

The price is $109 if i buy from the states, am i missing something here?

They add on duty for shipments to Ireland so it'll cost a bit more than that. Amazon.co.uk won't ship the kindle to Ireland it has to be bought from .com. Something about publishing or distribution rights I think. Yes I believe there are some ways around it but that's the direct route. I LOVE my kindle!!!!!!!!!!!!! Bought it at the end of August. Actually ordered it at 2 pm on a wednesday and it was delivered friday am! Less than 2 days later! And shipped from Kentucky.

My OH is so impressed he's planning on getting one now. He's borrowing mine to read 1 book on to decide if he'd really like 1 and I can't wait to get it back! And he's convinced he'll get 1 too now. Only thing I'm disappointed about is they've now reduced the price and there are more models to choose from:-( Lucky for you though>

PC world and currys sell the kindle in Ireland. It works out about the same price as in the UK and also if it goes wrong you cand bring it back to the shop. Not that it will go wrong as I have only ever heard good things about the kindle. I was going to buy one last week but did not have enuogh money even though they have gone down in price by €20. I hope this is a wee bit of help to you?

The model I bought was the Kindle 3G. That was the most up to date one available in August.
The one shown in the link above is the newer version of it - mine had a full keypad under the screen which was a bit redundant. The one shown in that link is new and the one OH will be getting for christmas:). there are also 2 new touch screen models just released one with and one without 3G. Personally i don't see the need for touch screen but to each their own. Either way Kindle on

Also regarding a light and a cover - a friend has the official amazon leather cover with integrated light and the cover is lovely really nice quality but i wasn't impressed with the light so much. Because it is in the top corner it seems to light three quarters of the page well and the rest very badly - I felt.
I bought a cheapo cover and light on ebay - cos I'm a cheapskate. I'm happy with both. The cover isn't too bulky but does the job and the light folds up into itself when not in use and slides onto the cover when needed and is effective. One thing though the metal clip of the light tends to scratch the 'leather' of the cover so I'm thinking a little bit of tape to muffle the edges. And I saw the light for sale the other day in HomeStore & More for 1.99. So shop around. There are lots of options and a range of prices.

Hello, just a quick question. I was about to order Kindle on Amazon and I was refused on both UK and US sites - it told me they won't ship it to Ireland! Any views on this? Where can I buy then? Many thanks

Currys sell them.... and Tesco sell the basic one for 109euro it has wi-fi but no 3G, not sure if they have the other models.

Bought my Kindle from amazon.com in August and just ordered another for my OH 2 minutes ago.

They won't ship the Kindle Touch or Kindle Fire to Ireland yet I believe but the regular Kindle - no problem.

Amazon.com will ship Kindles to Ireland, just have to follow the ordering process for international Kindle's which are the Kindle 4 or Keyboard 3G, however they are cheaper to buy in Ireland from Currys/PC World or Tesco, they have the Kindle 4 and the Keyboard 3G.

The Touch and Fire are not available outside the USA yet

Since the Touch has the same battery life as the original Kindle, I've been eyeing it up. Does anyone know when they will start to ship it to Ireland?

** EDIT ** Never mind, just read that it's not going to be released here at all, apparently.

Guys, anyone know if a Kindle Touch 3g bought in the US will work here in Ireland? Have a chance to pick one up over the weekend, but don't want to end up in a messy situation with faked addresses.

I'm confident it would be fine, but I just thought I'd check here first.

If a buy a Kindle in an Irish store I assume that is the UK version. Will I then be able to use this version to purchase books from the US Amazon site?

P.S. I know about all the messing with addresses stuff in your amazon.co.uk but it's for my girlfriend and I know that would be too much for her.

A kindle bought in Ireland and registered with Amazon will be registered under your address which is in Ireland and then you will buy books from the International Kindle store which is amazon.com, you can use a UK address and register your Kindle to that which allows you to buy from the amazon.co.uk Kindle store.

So if you buy from Currys/PcWorld or Tesco, then register your Kindle using your Amazon login details it will automatically use amazon.com for your book purchasing.
