    Hi Folks,

Just looking for a bit of info really, I have a mondeo '05' 2.0 diesel for the last 2 years love the car never let me down once, I drive 1000klm a week so am doing alot of driving. Looking at upgrading to a newer car mainly cos the tax (€614) is killing me, want to stick with the mondeo just wondering if there any any issues with the newer ones 08on or are they as reliable as my current car.
Would any of you have any recommendations?

    Thanks

The new model Mondeo is generally realiable, Clutch and Flywheel are expensive to replace, but they are on the one you are driving as well.

Biggest issue is that they aren't that much cheaper to tax than what you currently have. If you can find one, the 2.0Tdi in 08 is €447 a year to tax, and most of the 1.8Td's would be €302.

The 1.8Td in both 100 and 125ps is not a great car to drive - there is a crater in the torque at low revs that takes a bit of getting used to.

These threads are becoming quite long in the tooth but still. It probably won't make financial sense to buy a new car just to save a couple of hundred euro a year in road tax assuming there is nothing wrong with your current car. Also bear in mind if you are looking to change up the newer mondeos pre-08 are looking like better value due to people being out off by the higher road tax.

Basically there's no point in paying thousands to save hundreds.. but if you need a newer car or just would like one then maybe it does but I wouldn't be buying one to save money anyway.
