Non-consecutive NCB

    Quick one...

Have changed cars twice in the past year.

Original insurer NoNonsense - was with them for 8 months before changing to new car in March 2011 and having to switch insurer to XS Direct. (They refused to quote me and I didn't argue as if they did, the cost would probably have been astronomical)

August 2011 XS Direct - 6 months later was forced to change car again and also changed insurer as was not happy with the terms I was currently under. (2k excess).

When I changed in August, I was actually going back to Nononsense.

So question is: When I changed insurer in August, no-nonsense informed me that as I wasn't with one company for a consecutive year, that they would not count the 14months above as a no claim period.

    So:
    June09 - June10 = 1 year - Accepted.
    June10 - March11 = 8months - Not accepted
    March11 - August11 = 6months - Not accepted

Thats 26months, claims free, points free driving. Yet they will only accept the 1st 12 months, pre June 09? Is this allowed? A friend of mine (a judge, but not expert in this area) is of the opinion that I should approach the Insurance ombudsman about this...

Has anyone here been in this situation before? I'm very p*ssed off that I've lost 14 months of driving time....

Moved insurer after 9 months before. No way around it, you don't get an NCB cert for the partial year. You'll get over it, eventually...

That's the way it works, you should have done your reading before swapping around insurers.

I'd say you should be happy they even accept this 1 year NCT, as June09 to June10 was over 2 years ago, and most insurers won't accept NCT earned more than 2 years ago.

If they are willing to accept it - go for it.
