My guess would be that it will replace the 3GS at it's current price point, with the continued 3GS becoming cheaper again, and the new 4S replacing the 4 at its current price points (with a new higher point for the 64GB version).

your guess would be what was on apple.ie since last night haha
the only price that hasnt being revealed yet is the 4s but the 16gb and 32gb are the same price as the 4 was last year in the US

I didn't go checking all the carriers to see if they had updated all their contract prices to take the new phones into account. If they have then the OP can check for himself, if they haven't then my guess above stands.

The OP didn't specify where he was planning on buying, so I gave an answer that covers all bases. Looks like I was right so far from what Apple have released, time will tell if I'm right regarding the carriers selling contract phone (still much more popular than sim free).

Where did I exclude them, or Apple? I deliberately avoided mentioning any actual figures, and only used comparative (I.e. Will be the same) so that the OP could look to whatever source he wanted to get the relevant price of the phone on whatever plan he wanted.

??? I didn't assume you were taking about the carriers. I was talking to the OP, and I didn't assume he was talking about either Apple or the carriers, so I answered what I thought would happen for both.
