    Hostages held in attempted robbery

Gardaí are investigating an attempted robbery in north Dublin in which a post office worker and her husband were taken hostage.

An armed gang forced their way into the victims’ home in St Andrew’s Park, Swords late last night.

The woman, who works at the post office in Balbriggan, was forced to attend work as usual this morning while
her husband was held by the gang at an undisclosed location.

Gardaí became aware of the incident and responded to a call from the post office.

The attempted robbery was aborted and the man released unharmed. No money was stolen, a Garda spokesman said.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have seen suspicious activity at St Andrews Park in Swords or in and around Balbriggan post office overnight or early this morning to contact gardaí at Balbriggan on 01 8020510, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.
