I am currently trying to do some research on the viabilty of an idea I had.

Bascily I was wondering two things.

The first is can a setup like what google wave had, with real time group project work, be implentated on your own website that consists of a social network type setup?

The second: When creating something like a social network site, should you be open sourced or closed?

(My technical knowledge in this area is somewhat limted but I need to find out what can and cant be done before I come up with a wireframe to bring to a developer.)
