Got my Canon 24-105 off SimplyElectronics

    Hey all,

Just got my Canon 24-105 off SimplyElectronics today. Was supposed to come yesterday, but only arrived today. Ordered it two weeks ago.

Very pleased with the lens, and got it from their eBay store for €807 delivered, which wasn't a bad price, I thought.

Anyway, my thread is less about the lens and moreso about SimplyElectronics actually delivering their product in pristine condition. Just thought I'd make a good SE thread, as every other mention of them seems to be negative on boards. :(

I've ordered a few things off there now and apart from their promised delivery times being a work of fiction (I don't mind it taking two weeks, just tell me it'll take two weeks and not 3-5 days and everyone will be happy!) I've had no problems and I'd order from them again.

Yes a lot of uninformed negative comment about them. Main possible issues seem to be:-

+ longer than expected delivery times (unless you are lucky enough to order an item stocked in local warehouse - likely to be a popular / high-selling current item)
+ item not in stock so takes longer (less of this issue nowadays)

So once you check that item is in stock and have realistic expectations on delivery times (e.g. around 2 weeks), then should not be a problem. Have seen some issues on returns (taking a while to get a refund) but if you pay through ccard or paypal you would eventually be covered. Also make sure to use courier / recorded delivery for returns.

Their prices are a killer for shops in Ireland but that's the way of the world unfortunately.

Can you make a poll here asking whether people had good or bad experiences with them ?
I decided against going with them a few months back with the bad press. would be good to get good press out there

A Simply Electronics mega-thread? Good idea.

I ordered a cheap lens yesterday evening, 10% saving on Amazon's best price. I'll report back when there is something to report.

Fatcheese is showing the cashback as pending, with estimated award date of Jan 2012.

I went to use SimplyElectronics as well to buy the same lens (Canon 24-105), I was unlucky in that it took too long for a new shipment to come in and I needed the lens for a job. I did take into account when ordering, that the low price is due to them not having a backlog of stock.

They were excellent in their communication about the order and stock issue, always replying to emails with a good turnaround time. Sadly in the end I had to order elsewhere but I would definitely use them again.

I'm in that situation now, ordered a week ago but still not in stock. They need to sort out/drop the stock counter on their website, as it seems it simply displays random numbers.

Have you guys checked their eBay page? Does that make a difference? (I'd imagine that'd have to have stuff that's only in stock, or their feedback'd be shot to bits!?).

    That's how I ordered my 24-105.

my mate is looking for a Nikon D5100 and he will be buying from them this evening. I told him, he can you use my paypal and he was on the phone to them last night, they had 4 units in the UK, so he should get it within a week too.

I'll post up if he deffo goes for it and how the transaction goes, but if its anything like my transaction with them, it should go perfectly.

PS - i have a fatcheese now, so hopefully i get some cash back :d :D

My lens arrived a few minutes ago. I admit I did get a bit jittery when the order remained silent for over a week, but SE were fast to respond to emails and gave me the DHL tracking number (UK > IE) as soon as it was available.
I think I'm too impatient though and I'll probably go with Amazon in future, a little more expensive but much faster.
