Laptop Speakers Humming

I having been using my laptop with a cheap set of Tesco speakers with no humming and as quality of sound was dire I bought a new pair of speakers still in the low price range but great reviews.

    Both sets are mains powered.

Anyway the new speakers have a constant hum. The hum is there all the time regardless whether the volume on the speakers is turned up full or not.

It is also there when the speakers are only connected to the mains and not the laptop.

Is there anything can be done as don't want the bother of returning them to argos.

Ok it’s “mains hum” with out knowing your set up , what you need to do is isolate mains cables and audio cables, have them as far apart as possible. Also the location of your speakers are important they should not be near mains driven devices where possible. Experiment with moving the speakers pc around.

What I do is I have my speakers 4 feet away from my system I use Shielded audio extention cables. It states that your speakers are Shielded speakers so look at your cables. Also make sure there are no devices that work on a wireless signal near your speakers.

    Hope it helps………………….Dj

thanks DJ...but no joy unfortunately. I took the speakers on their own to the bedroom away from any source of interference and plugged them into the mains but the hum was still there.

Taking them back to Argos and might try a different brand.

Have a good pair of sony with subwoofer in another room that work brilliantly but don't want the hassle of moving them around.
