What are you looking for in a presidential candidate?

I myself haven't really made up my mind who I'm voting for. I'm up to speed on presidential interviews and debates, but still not sure who to vote for. I know who I vote for in general/local elections, but presidential elections are different.

For me it's someone to represent this country in the world stage, someone who is consistant and has an impressive track record. Out of the candiates running the only ones I'd seriously consider voting for or consider serious candiates include; Micheal D, David Norris, Martin McG and Gay Mitchel. I want a head of state who can be admired for their work.

As for the others I don't really understand why they are running? Mary Davis seems to be running on the ticket of being an independant/non-political candiate, which appears not to be the case at all. Sean Gallagher seems to be running on the ticket that he will use his entrapenurial skills
to the office and help create employment, although he has not explained how exactly he will do this. Perhaps I'm being a bit cynical, but their appears to be a lot of nonsense brought up in the campaign, a lot of which has nothing to do with being the head of state.

I know there is already a plethora of threads on the presidentail race, but what excatly are you looking for in a candiate?

Also I noticed a lot of people alude to low calibre of candiates running (not something I share), who do you think would be the ideal candidate for the presidency?

One without a shady past would be nice.

Someone who everyone could get behind would be good as well.

Of all the candidates i think Higgins suits this the best.

Someone who will uphold their constitutional responsibilities impartially, and will represent the country in a dignified manner without seeking to advance a political agenda countrary to the wishes of elected legislator, the Dail.

In effect a constitutional counterbalance to the Dail, not an initiator of policy.

Someone with a bit of dignity.

So, Michael D. essentially. The rest are bland or an embarrassment.

He's every right to want that. It's a legitimate concern of many of the electorate despite what McG supporters would have us believe.
