I've just got a 750gb Scorpio Black drive from Amazon so I can now store my photo archive on my laptop rather than a NAS (with painful performance implications).

So... I know how to restore the system once I have the new drive installed. Use the system disk etc.

My question is... what about my windows partition?

Any advice? Should I back it up under windows backup or is it covered in the time machine backup?

    Cheers,
    Quad

Your Windows partition is definitely not backed up by Time Machine, that's Mac OS only. If you use Windows Backup, I think you can just wipe the machine, install OS X, use BootCamp to partition the drive, install Windows, and restore it from the backup then. At least, that's the way I would do it :)
