Indoor antennae, am I screwed?

Moved into an apartment in Ashtown D15 and the tv reception is terrible, despite being on the 4th floor (west facing) . We can pick up rte 1 ok, rte 2 is barely watchable and tv3 comes through now and again. Needless to say with such poor reception we can't pick up any digital channels.

I've attached a pic of the antennae. Is it possible to get a better indoor one or would I be wasting my time? As its an apartment outdoor or attic isn't an option.

if you are getting tv3 sometimes then you should have good digital reception.
Have you got a saorviev box or compatible tv?
you could try putting an extension on to the aerial and moving it close to the window.

ideally you should be south facing http://www.saorview.ie/make-the-switch/coverage-checker/coverage-map/

    Argos sell indoor "booster" aerials.
worth a try. Bring it back if it doesnt work..

Managed to pick up the digital channels :)
Only catch is I have to leave the aerial hanging out the window

Are there any particular specs I should be looking for when choosing an indoor aerial?

If you don't have a strong enough signal indoors, nothing will work.

Is there a balcony or any kind of railing where you could mount a south-facing aerial?

Presumably there's no kind of (free to air) communal tv system in the appartments?
