I asked about Dunnes Stores in Douglas if they are hiring for Christmas staff and I was told they are not, now whether that means not at the moment I don't know but she gave me no further information. Maybe she didn't know herself. Maybe the best thing to do is ring head office in Dublin and talk to recruitment. I rang M&S head office this morning to see if they are recruiting and they are not recruiting new staff, they are going to go with applicants that applied in the summer.

They are hiring, but not exactly for christmas staff. They're hiring temp staff right now, 3 month contracts likely to be renewed. Christmas contracts are given out end of october and november usually. The amount depends obviously on how big the store is. Hand it in to the customer service desk and ask for the store manager or deputy store manager if you have retail experience. I was working in one Dunnes (a huge busy flagship)and am now in another (very small and quiet), both times I just handed it in to the desk but the first time there wasn't the same competition for these type of jobs, and the second time I had 3years Dunnes experience to carry me through. Head Office are not much use, as it is up to individual stores and their budgets as to how many and when they can hire. The application form is done right before your interview. The interview itself is very easy.

It was Dunnes in Douglas that I rang and yes, you're right, it is better to go and talk to them and get the correct person. I don't have any retail experience at all so I guess I have no chance against all the competition nowadays.
