Last time I was there I left two big containers of it on the counter! The guy wasn't sure weather or not to take it, so I told him it said so on their website (90% sure it said that at some point, - but not anymore)
I might try it again anyway.

Waste engine oil is a hazardous substance and I wouldn't expect Halfords to take it. Most county councils will take it at their refuse / recycle centres.

free engine oil disposal in waste areas.... example in coolmine waste centre ...linky . i use to dispose it there ... last time i throw around 20 l of oil. i have two containers from halfords (i think 10.l. each) for motor oil collection - handy enough. , there is container in ground, just open lid, and empty containers. i think in other areas could be same. Stay green :)
