I took some time out from accountancy for family reasons and I'm finding it quiet difficult to rejoin the workforce.

So my question is are there many unemployed accountants out there?

I currently am, but it's more or less by choice. Hope to go to England for work.

How long have you been out of the workforce?

When I left accounting for a few years I found myself working in an admin role in a financial services company. I transferred into an accounting role in the same company when a vacancy came up.

Same here - its far from an ideal situation.
Any plans what to do next?

If you are a CPA, they have MRA in with CPA Australia/CGA Canada.
Lots of jobs in Canada and Australia.
I am one of the transplant to Canada.

Hi guys I am currently working in Industry in Cork and in the last 4/5 weeks, I have had recruitment agencies on to me saying that the market in Cork is Bouyant again, maybe it is just at my level(2-3 YEARS pqe)

What I found when looking last year was that the harder I tried the more interviews I got. Try registering with a few recruitment agencies and hound them to get you a job.

Alternatively you could emigrate as another poster has hinted at!

^^^ Agree with this - can't get recruitment company's to stop ringing me over the last month. Stupidly gave them my CV a few years back. Like ssbob says maybe its because i fit their profile (ACA in practice, 4 years PQE etc).

There does seem to be a lot of jobs coming online recently though.

As i said on another thread, even take a good bookkeeping job and work up from there.

I'm a CIMA accountant, was made redundant in April. Got a job to keep things going and am starting a more suitable role this coming week.

There's definitely work in industry in Dublin.

It is definitely also more competitive than is was a few years back.

My story is very similar, I am a CPA, and got made redundant in June, picked up a short term contract in Dublin within 2 weeks, wasn't the work I wanted but it kept the bills paid.
I am starting a new job now in 2 weeks, which is more suited to what I want.

So keep the faith, there is work out there (in Dublin anyway).
The crowd who interviewed me said they ate finding ur very hard to find people as everyone is leaving the country
