Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Can't seem to copy and paste from that PDF, but they don't seem to take into account that there are plenty of Nicotine free eLiquids available when they talk about nicotine abstinent ex-smokers taking it up.

Of course the flip side is the possibility that people might be using more nicotine than they did when they were smoking.

and although it is better not to use any form of nicotine long term
    Why?
As a pure drug, nicotine has few adverse effects on physical health,
    From here; http://www.bbc.co.uk/health/emotional_health/addictions/nicotine.shtml
No mention of long term effects of PG or VG or the flavors.
Is their something in the mentality of people that can't get past the anti nic propaganda or is nicotine the first in a line of things that someone somewhere wants to ban. Caffeine next then salt, then sugar, then ...Oh wait they already want to do all that.
Reason isn't being applied here at all. It's a self propagating industry of finding things to 'cure' or research. A money go round.

The full quote is as follows:
As a pure drug, nicotine has few adverse effects on physical health, however it does raise blood pressure and accelerates the progression of heart and arterial disease. But it's the other chemicals taken in along with nicotine which do much of the damage. When tobacco burns as a cigarette is smoked, it releases hundreds of other constituents. It is these chemicals, described below, that pose the greatest risk to health.

    And later on:
Nicotine - immediate physiological effects include increased heart rate and a rise in blood pressure

Obviously using nicotine without smoking the carcinogens is better for you, but I wouldn't have any problems accepting that you're better off without using nicotine at all in the long run. High blood pressure is not a good thing.

Yeah but it's the same effect as exercise or caffeine, so what?
If we adopt the only whats positively good or not harmful in anyway approach, life becomes a pain in the arse.
Moderation in all things especially moderation. ;)

I've drastically reduced my caffeine intake as well!

I can totally see your point. The risks seem greatly reduced when you vape instead of smoke, but I think it would be misleading to say that nicotine has no harmful effects on its own. It sounds a little pedantic, but it’s the sort of thing that can cause confusion.

    Interesting article. Thanks Bubba.

I'll second Eoins' comments about high blood pressure not being nice. I'll also add that I've watched my OHs blood pressure, previously very hard to control, come down as his nicotine intake decreased.

Having said all that - As an ex-smoker, I have to admit I love mixing (and tasting) new flavours.
I just do it before I add the two drops per ml of 16mg nic vpg.:p:D:D

I know there are loads of articles out there on ecig health issues but I posted this one because it's in the current edition of the British Medical Journal which is a very influential publication and written by an Australian cancer specialist...Australia has the most strict tobacco legislation in the world.

And it takes a sensible attitude to e cigs. Which is a good thing.
Lets face it life is fatal, more so if you indulge all your vices, but the risk/ benefit balance is how we live with everything else in the world. Why not smoking versus ecig rather than the peculiar all or nothing approach.
Good to see common sense being used. I see quiting nicotine if you have a blood pressure problem as wise as would quiting salt, and caffeine. Whether these things, used in moderation, cause or exacerbate a condition? Your call .

Yep, that's a completely reasonable attitude to have. Just saying that if you're going to advocate vaping, there's no harm in being upfront about things like that. Otherwise it can just get confusing when people talk about the differences in health benefits between smoking and vaping.
