    Hi
I have a 99 tdi golf and lately when i try to start it - it dosent start. It happened today - was driving for half hour - stopped for 2 mins to go to shop when i returned and tried to start it wont turn over - it almost does but just dosent make it. Tried again a minute later and it worked fine. This has happened a few times lately - would it be the stater thats faulty - or how can i check this - i have a meter to test if needed? Any help or advice would be really appreciated

Could be a few things. I'd check the battery first.

Battery sounds ok - when i try to start it the engine turns over and it dosent sound like the battery is on the way out at all. How do icheck battery to eliminate this? What should i check next if thats ok. Thanks for reply

I had a similar problem on my mkiv golf gti and I got it scanned. It turned out to be the crankshaft sensor. You're best bet is to get it scanned and take it from there.

Crankshaft position sensor could be the fault, could also be an immobiliser issue do you have a second key you could use for a week or so and see if cures it ?
