Deloitte Interview

Have an interview with Deloitte this week. The e-mail I got said the following:
The interview process involves firstly completing a competency based interview with a department representative. This is then followed by an e-tray exercise, the e-tray exercise involves completing an inbox exercise (1 hour) and a written exercise (40 minutes). Altogether the interview process will take approximately 3 ½ hours.

Any advice on the 'competency based interview'? They told me I'd be interviewed by a partner and a senior manager for circa 45mins-1hr. What business topics should I read up on in advance? Presidential election, banking crisis, nama, anglo? Anything else?

Is there any prep I can do for the later PC-based exercises?

The e tray thing is ok just take your time and try to get tru it logically.
As for the interview itself it's the usual competencies team work, leadership, going beyond what was required etc.
Try to have two examples of competencies and don't worry if they seem frivilous you're young and having these examples help you stand out.
As for other stuff read the papers eg bankruptcy just keep it simple don't talk yourself into trouble by saying something you cannot discuss comfortably.
    Best of luck.

Some questions Deloitte asked me were:

Are you a leader or a follower?
    What is your biggest regret?
    What challenge does Deloitte face?
What should the economy do from a tax perspective?
Other than that, they'll ask the normal team based, leadership etc. questions.

The E-tray exercise is fine, just read it carefully and decide the answers.

    Hey Maninblack
is this a trainee contract with deloitte? or what type of role, just wondering are they hiring at the minute?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 366 ✭✭levi

Competency questions will be phrased like:

Give me a time where you showed leadership skills or give an example of time when you had to use good organisational skills.

You're good to use any examples from being on a sports team to organising a holiday for a group of friends. Just google competency based interviews and practice the questions. The more practiced you are the easier it'll be!

All the major accountancy firms are doing their milk rounds now (offering 3 year training contracts)

They're still hiring for immediate hires in one or two departments.
The vast majority is obviously for regular grad hires i.e. Sept 2012/2013.

Yep, I went for immediate start. Interview went really well I thought, both interviewers seemed happy with my CV and the answers I gave. eTray was a bit dodgy but OK overall.

Nearly been a week now though and heard nothing back, should I be worried? :(

you might not hear back for weeks, i think they wait until all interviews are done before making phone calls, i didnt hear back for a month or so when i was offered

How much notice did you get of your interview and how long was it?

was this for a graduate position or an ''experienced hire'' position.?
as for your own situation i wouldn't worry yet seemingly (from friends experiences) that anything plus a week is not unheard of.
    Best of luck with it!!

Deloitte were pretty quick off the mark for me anyway. Think they rang me a day or two after my interview.

PwC were two or three days

KPMG rang me the next day

I'd say within two working days is about standard certainly in my experience that is the case.

    Hi all,
I have an interview for deloitte in about 2 weeks in the management consultancy department, I'm in my final year of civil engineering (not really the same I know) if anyone has any tips or has a similar experience (say coming from a different discipline like engineering into deloitte) I would greatly appreciate the help! Cheers

The good news is that big 4 interviews are competency based.Fairest way of judging candidates..experience counts for little...only that you will not get exemptions from the professional exams. All candidates would be judged based on Deloitte competencies regardless of your engineering background..So dont expect balance sheet or some fixed asset accounting questions. I wouldnt worry too much. Im from an IT background.have an interview with Deloitte on Nov.3

Be prepared to answer the standard questions - like biggest achievement etc. Try to have some idea of how you expect Deloitte to help you in your career - and also be up to date in a general sense with current business news.

I've been working at Deloitte for 5 weeks now. Everyone is very nice and easy to approach seniors on any query that I may have. The first three weeks were training and after that went to my first audit. The audit was very good because I asked my senior many questions but he wouldn't get upset about it. Overall, people are great and very helpful.

Can't disclose my salary though, sorry.

    One trillion dollars

In all fairness theres nothing too secret about your salary mate, the same as all new recruits, depending on your qualifications

I have an interview with Deloitte coming up soon. I was excited about them at q college career fair, but now I think it would be the most boring job I could do; consultancy or auditing.... Anybody got any experience with a job there...??

Muzi, which area are you in within Audit? Would you mind telling us about your area/role and why you think Deloitte is a good choice for employees. It would be greatly appreciated or even if you could PM me if you don't want to write it publicly.
