Selling Gas oil?

My parents are upgrading their oil burner. They thought they had kerosene oil but they found out today its gas oil. The new burner which is already installed is not compatible with gas oil. Their tank is half full. Is their anywhere where this could be sold onto? Its a shame for it to go to waste.

My brain is not engaged.. but is gas oil not diesel... Can they not just stick with it or get the burner adjusted?

    Just top up with kero.

TBH I don't know anything about heating so I dont know what the difference is. They were told by the guy installing it that the new burner is not suitable for gas oil, only kerosene. What can be done with the oil that will have to be drained from the tank?

Thanks for advice. Will that be ok for the new boiler? It won't destroy it?

It's more likely the boiler isn't compatable for oil, what boiler is it ??

yep sounds like either its a new condensing boiler or a boiler with a low level flue,so even topping up with kero wont work,
oil companies wont buy it back as there has been too many issues with removing oil from tanks

    Hi,
the oil company might pump it out for you but they will charge you for that and as another poster says may not buy it back from you.

You could syphon it out yourself into a number of jerry cans or a large diesel drum. I have one about 150l for diesel but don't know where you are in the country.

You could sell it to the farmers for agricultural use. even if you sell it for less at least you are getting something for it.

Heating diesel 'gas oil' and green diesel 'marked gas oil' (i.e. marked green as apart from white or clear) are all the one.

    See http://www.batesoil.com/home-heating-oil.aspx

Explains the differet names attached to different types of fuel.
Are you sure you had gas oil delivered?

oil companies wont pump them out anymore, some were getting into to much hassle contaminating their own clean oil and the delivering it on

There was abloke on Adverts.ie giving away 250 litres of oil. If not the OP, then there is a suggestion how to get rid of it.
