Alrite lads , hypothetical question ...
Is it possible to get yourself discharged from the irish defence forces (no problems nothing) and join a British unit for a few years and then be taken back in to the irish army ?

    Possible, yes. Probable, no.

I know of one guy who left after a few years, and an overseas trip.

When he came back he had to start as a recruit again.

I know of plenty who left the british army/legion etc after a short while and joined the Defence Forces

To my knowledge, and as always I am open to correction, if you reapply within 3 years of your discharge you can resume at the same rank you left the DF at, otherwise you start from the start... thats in the RDF anyway, presume it'd be the same for the PDF, I know of a Sergeant who let himself get discharged and went to rejoin the RDF about 5 years later , he had to undergo recruit training again but ended up fast tracked back to sergreant afterwards...
