where to dispose of a frame

    Hi all,
This may seem a silly question, but please bear with me........

So, after being in an accident a few months ago I've got a replacement bike, all well and good. However I still have the bike that I was on when hit - a 6 week old Felt Z85 with around 500km done on it. There was no obvious damage to it after the crash and 3 separate LBS have said the frame is fine. The carbon fork has been replaced with what I'm told is a higher spec fork from Felt.

Now, I don't really have the need or interest in having two bikes (I know, the shame :D), so I want to get rid of it. I'm reluctant to sell it as a full bike at what would be the proper s/h price just in case anything ever went wrong with it, it wouldn't feel right, bad karma and all that. So, I'm probably going to strip the groupset (mostly 105) and sell these bits separately.

My question is, where is the best place to dispose of a frame if I go down this route ? Local authority dump ? I've no idea.

    Thanks

What size is it and how much would you want for it from someone who isn't concerned with Karma?:)

There is a group called rothar that recycle old bikes. They might take it.

    hey,

if gog doesn;t take it I'd be happy to - wouldn't sell it on btw, I'd either build it up for myself at some point or use in an art project of some sort

    Cheers

Thanks for the replies guys. Never thought of Rothar, will check them out.

@ g0g, its a size 56, you're welcome to have a look at it if you want. Hadn't thought about a price for the whole thing, will have a think and PM you.

@ colm, if/when i sell the gruppo you're welcome to check the frame out if you're looking to do a build.

Thanks for reply - on mature reflection i'm not really in a position to do a build at the moment- I'll back out gracefully:D

Oh, just look on Felt website and I'm 185cm so it seems to be saying I'd actually need a 58 or 61. :( Someday I'm gonna find a (non-robbed!) dirt cheap second-hand bike!

I'd be interested depending on the price?

why not use it as a winter trainer - get a trainer and set it up in the garage for those wet windy days you can't go out on your new bike

Thanks for the interest harrybelafonte. Assume you mean the whole bike ? You can have it for €300 - there's a photo of it on the images of beauty thread from when I bought it (Feb/Mar time). Price new at the time was €1,199 IIRC.

Just to be clear, and for my own peace of mind, it has been crashed, checked out by 3 LBS and had the fork replaced by Felt. I can give you the report from one of the LBS if you want.

Based on the interest shown (which surprises me) here I'm going to stick it up on the sales part of the site, explaining the history of it. Harry, can have first refusal if you're interested, or I guess you can reply on this thread.

Mods, apologies for the direction this thread has taken.

Considered that, but don't have room for one to be honest, its a squeeze to get my main bike into the shed, I'll be shot if I try to put up a trainer ;)

I was literally just about to post a thread asking about where to look for used frames to use for a dedicated trainer setup for my Tacx Fortius. I'm a Large on a PlanetX so given it'd be for a trainer setup, I'd say the 56cm would be grand and there'd be no major risk of any injury in the event of a frame failure....am sure I could handle the fall onto my towel-laden floor under the trainer if the worst did happen.

I have a wheel, chainset, handlebars, rear wheel & cassette, seatpost (which I'll need to replace with zero offset) & saddle so if I picked up a frame I'd be pretty close to set (would either put a front wheel on or build a rig to hold the front fork in place).

Anywho, if it suits Russman, just let me know (I live in D12 and work in Sandyford but anywhere in/around Dublin can work).

Thanks, but after sleeping on it, and with a new bike already on order I think I'm being a but greedy. I'll have to bow out. Looks like you should have an easy sale there. Good luck.

If no one gets it by the weekend would you mind if I popped round to have a look at it?

No, not at all. Its over on the Adverts section and there's I think 6 people in line for it - but if noone gets it you can certainly check it out.

Hi Russman, can you let me know your thoughts on my post? Thanks.

Apologies Frank, I meant to reply to your post earlier.
Anyway, I put it up on the adverts section last night and, so far, 6 people have offered to buy it. I should have probably have asked the mods to lock this thread once I did that, my mistake.

Good luck with the hunt for a frame.
