As part of Maths Week 2011, the UCD School of Mathematical Sciences is hosting a public lecture.

    Date: Thursday, October 20, 2011
    Time: 7pm
Location: Lecture Theatre R, Newman Building
    Audience: General public

    Speaker: Dr. Robert Osburn (UCD)

"Ramanujan: his life, the last letter and beyond"

The Indian genius Srinivasa Ramanujan left the mathematical world with many fascinating and unproven assertions that would challenge the finest researchers through the 20th century. Indeed, work on Ramanujan's mathematics continues today as many of his deepest and most tantalizing writings were only unearthed in 1976 and have yet to be fully explained. In this lecture, we discuss his intriguing life, his famous last letter in 1920 to Cambridge mathematician G. H. Hardy and how his visionary work influences the modern scientific community.

    All are welcome!
