    Hi,

Does anyone know what the saorview signal is like in kells? would a booster be needed if I put up an outdoor aerial?

    Thanks.

I don't know what the signal is like in Kells but go with the external aerial and see how it goes, shouldn't be a problem to add one later if required. Even if the analogue signal is weak in a particular area the Saorview signal can generally be received OK with the correct aerial pointing at the correct transmitter.

The Saorview coverage checker recommends Kippure for Saorview in Kells, UHF Channel 54H - Group C/D aerial (green tip) pointing in a SE direction.

I set up a friends house with this near Kells.

About 5 miles to the south west of Kells near the N52, I pointed an ariel in the attic at CLERMONT CARN (Direction of Dundalk).

Because of the orientation of the house, I couldn't point it at Kippure inside the attic.

I had to use a booster as well. But when I was testing outside the house, Kippure and Clermont both required a booster. So we went with Clermont in the attic. Reason being that outside ariels in this house had a habbit of coming to an unfortunate end.

I also know of another house the south of Kells along the N3 can get signal with no booster from Kippure.

I'd recommend setting it up without a booster, and see how you do. If it blocky or pixaleted, then get a booster.
