You'll need to check it out individually.

Most (all?) of the operators now offer a 16GB iPhone 4 for free, if you sign up to an 18 or 24 month contract.

Three have by far the best value deal, but some people have issues with coverage and connectivity. Most people I know on Three have no issues.

Vodafone have the worst value package and middling data coverage.

A new iPhone is being released tomorrow, so if you can hold off a few weeks, you will likely see the operators offering even better deals to clear their old iPhone stock.

Thanks seamus. A friend of mine got the phone for free with an 18 month contract for 40 euro..Is that reasonable. I went into the local phone shop and she adviced to go for an android phone..something like the htc..she said and 18/24 month contract is a long time and also if you have any problems you have to go to apple and not where you bought it. I have an android at the moment. Last 5/6 months. I just want an Iphone though, they really look the part.

I would say that 02 have probably won the worst value package award with their latest ones. 150mb is the new monthly data allowance on their entry smartphone package.

closeline - I'm now out of contract with Vodafone and looking to move, but I've had a pre-pay SIM from both three and meteor sent to me so I can test out the coverage before I commit to a contract. Could be worth doing the same so you're not tied into a network that's no use to you.

Then stay with Android and get a Samsung Galaxy Ace or S2, they look very similar to an iPhone which is why Apple are trying to sue them and they are superior hardware and software wise.

That's all Apple is and the end of the day, brand name and looks. Get a good Android and you get performance, features and looks.

The HTC Sensations look class too and the new XE and XL versions out very soon.

Sure, the Samsung Galaxy S2, released a few months ago, is superior to the new iPhone 4S just announced today.

That's over-simplifying it hugely IMO. I've tried Android phones and tablets (and really tried to like Android), and even though on paper they have better specs, I just find iOS a much better user experience. The really crappy camera on my 3GS is really the only issue I have with it.

But I'm guessing this debate has already been done to death twice over.

In reality there's very little between the top-end phones at the moment. If you like the way one looks and you have no other opinion on it, then go for the one that you prefer.
The only major difference as far as I can see is camera quality, but unless you want to use your phone for taking particularly good shots, then the iPhone camera does just fine for those drunken nightclub shots and random everyday cat pictures.
