Spotted this on Vagdrivers.net, might be of interest to some people on here.
With an ordinary category B licence, a person can

tow a trailer of up to 0.75 tonnes DGVW, with a vehicle with a DGVW of up to 3.5 tonnes and seating for up to eight passengers (apart from the driver). The combination weight cannot exceed 4.25 tonnes.
tow a trailer exceeding 0.75 tonnes DGVW, provided that the DGVW of the trailer does not exceed the un-laden weight of the towing vehicle, and the maximum combination weight does not exceed a total of 3.5 tonnes.

So it looks like all the has to have a 4x4 etc. is a load of crap!

Who said you need 4x4 to tow a trailer?

My car (Mazda 6) has DGVW of 1840kg, while unladen it weights 1300kg... Maximum trailer weight permitted by manufacturer is 1500kg.

    Now.

On B licence I can tow a trailer up to 1300 DGVW.
Then both necessery conditions are met.
    1. Trailer DGVW (1300kg) is not greater than car unladen weight (1300kg).
    2. Total DGVW of both vehicle (1840kg) and trailer (1300kg) is 3140kg, which is less than maximum permited 3500kg.

On EB licence I can tow maximum allowed by manufacturer which is 1500kg DGVW trailer.

Separate thing is that barely any trailer in Ireland has any DGVW specified, as there was no laws requiring trailers to be testes, approved, registered, etc.
Anyone can build trailer in his own shed.

    not for much longer......from rsa.ie
    Future Trailer Regulations

Starting in 2012, all trailers will be required to comply with European Community Whole Vehicle Type Approval (ECWVTA) and its related approval schemes. ECWVTA will test trailers on brakes, lighting, coupling devices, etc. A trailer must pass these tests before it can enter the European fleet or enter into service on Irish roads.
There are also new national schemes to approve trailers: both those manufactured in low volume in Ireland, and for trailers manufactured or imported individually.

It wasn't very difficult to work that out though in fairness to you, but I guess some people need everything spoon fed to them.

Punctuation isn't a crime and should be encouraged at every opportunity!

OP is now on the straight and narrow, and will prosper as a result!

I'm normally very careful with my punctuation, I take your pointing it out as an insult, to be honest.

nope, heavy goods or C doesnt cover you to pull a trailer anymore than B does, if you pass the EC test though you get the EB entitlement aswell

You have to pass the same test as you did when you were 17 again (car/tractor).

Unless it was less then 2 years ago.
