I was thinking about getting above smartphone.

My wife recently got Wildfire S, and I like it.

Desire Z though has bigger display, and keypad which both seem to be advantages for me. Android 2.2 instead of 2.3.3 in my wife's phone.

I generally would use it for mostly for email, boards.ie, and probably some game emulators (amiga, atari).

Would that phone be any good for me?

If you want to game, xperia play can be had for a similar price now.

If you do more texting then go for The desire z.

I probably wouldn't do much texting neither gaming anyway.

I just took a look - xperia play has a game pad built in.

But price seems to be different for me.
I can get Desire Z for about €230 while xperia play would cost me around €320.
Both simlock free (and that's what I need).

I would be doing a good bit of internet browsing, so keypad seems to be more useful than gamepad.

So between those two - Desire Z seems to be better choice for me.

Actually xperia play is 235 here http://www.expansys.ie/sony-ericsson-xperia-play-208958/.

Still if you think desire would suit you better than go for it. Its a grand phone.

I would say no to HTC Desire Z.

The HTC Desire Z has a hinge that can get a little loose over time. Happened to mine and one night I slide it into my pocket and a credit card got between the LCD screen and the base and broke a cable. Went to every phone shop in Dublin to get it fixed and they all basically said no not worth our while getting the parts as it wasn't as big seller here. So have had a noghtmare finding part on ebay

I had great plans for the keyboard but to be honest never used it.

    Get a desire S

Would anyone have any advice on where would be the cheapest place online to find a sim free Desire Z ?

My girlfriend has the Desire S and its a super phone. Very reliable, very easy to use and an excellent screen. It's not too big and not too small. I have the Desire HD and its a big block of crap. However personally this has dented HTC's rep and I will never buy a HTC again.

I'm getting a new silver/white Samsung Galaxy SII this weekend to replace my HTC, everyone I know that has a Samsung Galaxy swears by them, one friend has gone thru the iPhone, HTC, Sony and Samsung smartphones in the past few years and rates the Samsung the best.
