I am a complete newbie as I got sky this week for the first time ever. I am amazed that I have no Irish channels though. I thought there was a problem with my card, and I rang them only to be told that I can't get any of the Irish channels - but that if I know a friend or neighbour with Sky who has them, to chat to them as Sky don't support the Irish channels:confused:

    What am I missing?

Well, the 4 Irish channels anyway:)
Was it an official $ky installation you got. Or was it a FTA system installed? If the latter, you won't get the Irish channels.
If it was an official $ky install, then you were led up the proverbial path. Go back to them and demand the Irish channels or you will cancel. You have that right within the first 7 days.

First off, are you actually still located in Ireland?

Yep, I'm in northside dublin, and it was the official sky installation I got on Friday. When I rang, I gave the guy my card number, but I also gave him my name and address so he knew I was in Dublin...he made it sound like there was an illegal way to get the irish channels, but didn't say it in so many words!

I signed up under the current offer, on their website (free hd box and 33 pm for their sky entertainment package).

It's gas - here I am with 99 channels (or close to it) and I'm askin about rte lol - but I missed the presidential debate (probably didn't miss much mind you) and I like the news/current affairs stuff on rte..and of course, fair city;)

what channels are on 101,102,103 ?
ring them again, they should send a signal and have it switched on.

    dont wait till the morning.

from their website and what you've said, it would seem you've gotten the entertainment extra pack. both that and the standard entertainment pack should include the irish channels as a bonus pack. Its possible that the call centre in the uk didnt understand that thats available here. maybe he thought you were in the uk. Ring them again and try 0818 719 819 to see if you get the irish call centre. they are much better to deal with

The channels (rte1, rte2, tv3 and t4g) are all there, but the message is 'This programme is not available...'

Ok, I'll ring them again in the morning - I suppose it's possible he didn't understand that I was in Dublin, but I'm not sure what part of 'dublin 5' might have confused him!!

Thanks guys, I'll try them again tomorrow.

Edit: Yes, I got the entertainment extra package.

He might have thought Dublin was just part of Britan (JOKE). if the channels are there your on the irish EPG so its only a matter of them changing a setting.

And while you're at it, tell them you want credit for the time you didnt have the full service you should have got from Day 1. $ky wont think twice about charging full whack for their $ervice:(

Should the installer not have checked all this?

Not really a joke - many people in Britain think that Dublin is in the UK.

Ok, well I rang them back and they are re-connecting me within 24 hours. The guy (today) agreed that the other guy (on saturday) must have thought I was a UK customer - i definitely gave him my address however, as I distinctly remember having to spell it for him (four times:rolleyes:).

Anyway, all will be restored and I'll get to see the 9oclock news tomorrow night - thanks again:D

I was only thinking of the irony of me getting 90 odd channels and then being so keen to get RTE back:p. It's for fair city...what can I say..;)
