I moved all the data from all my drives to folders on my new 3TB external USB3

I know that about 1/3 of the files are duplicates.
i tried windirstat and winmerge, no joy...

anyone know a good (preferably open source) windows tool for listing/deleting duplicate files?

    thanks.

in linux you can use fslint to replace duplicate files with softlinks, so there is only one real file but more than one directory index for it

ntfs supports soft links so this can be done in windows to
but don't know if there is a windows version or if the linux version supports ntfs

you may be able to run linux apps in cygwin, but I'd get nervous with the file system ones

which ever app you get make sure it uses checksums to verify files are indeed duplicates, and that it's settings won't remove any system files (windows just loves having backups all over system32)

    have a look at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freedup
