Why do people hire vintage cars for their wedding day?

This is one thing I never understood.
What is it with the tradition of hiring a big vintage Beaufords, Daimlers or Rolls Royces?

Obviously its a matter of personal taste, but I find these cars really unappealing; I find it bizzare that people actually hire them for the "happiest day" of their lives.

Got stuck beside a Daimler in traffic the other day with the bride, groom and bridesmaids in the back and all the windows were steamed up, the driver was frantically wiping the inside of the windscreen with an old t-shirt, the exhaust/engine was horribly noisy and unrefined and they all looked very cramped and uncomfortable in the back; the bridesmaid looked like she couldn't wait to get out.

Personally I find them very unattractive, crude and an unnecessary tradition. Give me a modern Phantom, Quattroporte or 7 series for the day and waft me about in sublime comfort and style.

    That is all. :pac:

It is odd. Has noone told them all that matters on a wedding day is the Bride (and possibly her Mother). Money making racket to promote cars/videos/chocolate fountainns etc....

(OK so you need a car for the bride big enough to take her dress but thats all..)

Well, its all a matter of taste (or lack of) but better a proper vintage/classic car than a '90s replica built on a Transit chassis!
    "shudder"

Does anyone offer that service though?I'm guessing it'll be a bit more expenisve aswell.

For our wedding we went in Impreza WRX ;)
We've a bit of show-off on snow in front of wedding venue.
    I thought it was great.

When I got married a good few years back I had a 1951 RR Silver Dawn with a 4.3L inline 6 pot engine.

We had to travel from Belfast to Newcastle (~30 miles) for the reception and I was going to make sure that I enjoyed the trip. I had a great chat with the owner about the car and how he maintains her.
I could have had a modern car but back in 2000 what were my options that would have stood the test of time? There is sweet FA (if anything) out there that I would have wanted.

It's the only film I can watch over and over again, I would love to buy one but don't have a garage to store it in, so it would probably rot sitting in the driveway all year round.

Had this as our wedding car
    176600.jpg

It helped that it was an absolute scorcher of a day, so spent the whole time queuing on the M50 drinking cold champagne, with the rag top all the way back, taking in the sun.

I'd also sorted myself something nice, so drove myself to the church in an A8 4.2 quattro and had it the following day to drive back from the reception. Wasn't much fun dropping that off back to the dealer and getting back in to my manual, smelly, non air conditioned, 6 year old Mondeo after swanning around in the 8 for 5 days.

but that would just be my preference/ personal taste. (in theory)

Some people like salt and vinegar on their chips, some don't.
Some people like rap music, some like Bach.

People are different, get over it (/yourself)!

Personally? I think it just screams 'tacky' for a wedding. Like others have said, it's all a matter of taste isn't it?

I had a lovely vintage Austin Princess for mine. You could tell the owner looked after it as a labour of love. Beautiful car, and I loved every second of it.

Others have had BMW's for their weddings and it looked just as nice.

Anything, but one of those horse drawn carriages! Whats so memorable about seeing a horse take a **** on your wedding day! Not to mention the trafic jams they cause.

we hired a large old car - sorry completly clueless as to what it was - for our wedding -
to be fair though the whole transport thing was wrecking our head - i had all my sisters standing with me (4) and an 8 seater was the easiest way of transporting all bridesmaids and groomsmen to the reception.
plus we got fab photos :D

I should have said, it's my ultimate car of all time not for a wedding if you know what I mean, although it would be a bit of crack turning up to the church in one. Herself wouldn't be seen dead in one.............shes already told me that when I said ild like to buy one
