G&p high speed too fast????

I have just got my g&p magpul m4 last week, since it has a reinforced gearbox, i decided to put my new set of systema high speed gear into it. Tested it out with a 8.4v 1100mah battery and the rof was ridiculously fast approx 25rps.
I know high rof is not the safe way to go but im thinking of using 7.4 20c lipo to fit in the stock tube and changing all connectors to deans. Does anyone has any idea what the rof will be?? Can the g&p shell be able to handle this??

Also i have noticed that the fps goes down by 15fps on both semi and auto after putting in the new set of gear. What has gone wrong??? HELP please!!

The 7.4v would have it a few RPS faster with the Deans.

As for the FPS - I'd say that you're losing the seal between hop chamber and air nozzle as you fire.

Thanks Lefty, Have you got any advice on solving the problem?

You didn't mess with the cylinder or piston assembly no? If you didn't make sure the small spring is on the hop chamber and is pushing it back firmly against the gearbox shell.

the spring is still there, the hop up and nozzle look fine, no wear and tear on them. There is only one thing with the piston, when i first opened the gearbox, there was a hell load of gear grease on the piston teeth. All i did was cleaned them off and put on some cylinder grease.

Go over your compression and seals - but to be honest, 15fps is nothing.

you are right there, i just want to make sure that there is no such problem that the gun will keep dropping the fps. Thanks anyway.

Change the hopup rubber if its not done already-G+P stock rubbers are rubbish-try a madbull blue(use the original nub as the one that comes with the blue is too big) and you will get your 15fps back:)

On that note though - what's your AEG firing at currently? I've seen some crazy fps jumps with those!

my G&P M4 is running a 7.4 lipo with stock gears and the ROF is amazing. I had crazy differences from week to week with the FPS. shooting 280 out of the box then 360 the down to 290. lol It turned out that the reseller that downgraded it cut the original spring to downgrade it instead of putting a proper spring in. check the spring for snip marks. I replaced the spring with an M90 but the FPS was still way over. This gun needs a M85 to shoot below 328.

mine would also fire 2-3 shots on single fire. The reseller didn't allign the gears correctly after the downgrade. The gears where in engaging the piston to early and the tappet was getting caught in the gears causing a bounce effect on the spring.

once I fixed the issues the gun is running like a dream.

I would avoid madbul blue hopups, go for guarder clear if you can...I had one in my main g&p m4 and it kept misfiring the bb's, threw in a guarder clear and the difference was amazing..
Another good call is one of the madbull blacj python tightbores...

    +1

I have the Guarder clear and the madbull python and the accuracy is amazing. the barrel will push you 30-40 fps over the stock barrel so be careful.

next thing for me is a 6.01 barrel or maybe a tanio koba twist barrel... havent decided yet :)
and of course downgrade it after that
    already have a guarder clear

For the love of god don't go for the twist barrel, unless your only gonna use single shot and single shot ONLY then grand their pretty decent but the moment you go full auto or burst shots even 2/3 shot bursts, then your shots will be "meh" at best. I've seen a few aegs with this set up and anytime they tried burst shots it was annoying for them.
Though i'm open to criticism on that , it just my opinion on the matter.

Also if your going on 6.01mm barrell be sure to use good quality bb's. I found the rocket gunfire bb's to be awesome :D

    lol i no
im still researching it at the moment

and yea i use quailty bbs as it is. far better range and accuracy over cheaper ones.
ha hmm Seairsofts free give away?
i also love my rockets, ive used about 30 so far coz i want to save them for shooting at people not targets :)
    very impressed with them.

I may be wrong but does a twist barrell have the same effect as riflling in RS , if so , would it not render the hop-up usless ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 718 ✭✭✭$kilkenny

in a way it sorta is useless but small adjusments are supposed to help accuracy.
the bb doesnt touch the barrel wall like the standard barrels as the rifling effect creates an air pocket around the bb as it goes down the barrel.
google is a great way to research it, unfortunaly most of what you find is americans calling them crap and saying it can be used under 1 joule, i still wait to see someone say they have twist barrels in every gun they own here

Not at all! The twist barrels have a diameter of 6.1mm I think, the grooves allow air to circulate around the BB and as $kilkenny said - stabilise it. I've seen a lot of mixed performances with them. I've seen them work very very well and not work at all.

If I remember correctly when I tried the twist barrels a good while ago.
They measure around 6.08 as they aren't a tightbore barrel.
If you had a 6.03 and your AEG was firing at 320fps, you can expect it to drop between 20-30fps with the twist barrel.
This is my experience with them, others may have got different results.

They work well enough, you do need a small bit of hop for them to work correctly. Personally I prefer a good quality tightbore but that isn't to say there is anything wrong with the twist one.

This is just my own personal experience, as I have already said others may have had different results.
