    Hi All,

    Two questions for ye.

Need a new pair of runners - I run at least 18 miles a week and up to this point have always bought runners that are my own size 8.
The question is should I do the same again or is there any benefit of going up half a size as is recommended? Have had no problems up to now.

Another quick question - I use 1000Mile socks medium size 6-8.5 (i'm a size 8) and find them fairly tight when i put them on - should i go up a size or is this the way they should be?

    Cheers in advance for help;)

Wear a pair of the 1000 mile socks to the shop when you're trying on your new runners.
I'm size 8 too, and find the next size up a little loose, but more comfortable than the smaller size

I always buy runners either half or a full size bigger than my street shoes.
I'm pretty sure it's a major contributor to why I never get blisters.

Same with me, I'm a 6 in street shoes and always go 6.5 in runners. I never have any problems with blisters or chaffing in my shoes. I never understand why people have those sorts of problems.

I found with my New Balance i had to go up .5 but Asics were a normal 9.

I wouldnt agree with the recommended "half size bigger" in runners. If a size 8 fits properly, then i dont see the benefit of going up half a size. If anything,it would impede your toe-off,akin to,as someone put it here before, running in clown shoes.Granted, different brands of shoes fit differently, but get properly fitted and dont be guessing sizes.
On the socks front,I also use 1000 mile socks, and yes, they are tight, but not uncomfortably so. They have to 'fit' this way because friction is one of the causes of blisters. The inner sock stays with your foot, and the outer one moves,so that you have a sock rubbing a sock as opposed to rubbing your foot.Hope i got all that right, open to correction.

I've found similar - the one pair of New Balance shoes I had in the past was a 7.5, likewise Brooks, but in Asics, Mizuno and most other brands I'm a 7. Have to go down to a 6.5 in Nike shoes because I find them very wide.

    1) Running socks are usually thicker
    2) your feet swell when running

Firstly what is your foot size?I find most people don't actually know and are guessing.
So get your foot measure with a brannockhttp://www.brannock.com/cgi-bin/start.cgi/brannock/instructions.html

This will give you the size of your foot and from here we can see if one foot is maybe bigger then the other.I have come across people with a size and a half difference from one foot to the other.

I believe anyone running the marathon distance should go up atleast 1 half size so if your foot measures uk 8 then go up to 8.5uk in your shoes.

Yes brands like Newbalance will be smaller on uk size but if you compare in Euro size you will get it spot on.
Anti blister socks are thicker(2 layers) so if you are going to wear in training try them on instore before buying or making the decision on your size of runners.
