just for the craic, what players would make up your 'county rugby team'?
you would have to say, Dublin would be the strongest with the likes of Cork , Limerick, Kildare and Antrim being fairly strong too.

as a Tipp man, our county team wouldnt be too bad with the likes of Denis Leamy, Donnacha Ryan and Denis Fogarty.

what would be the first 15 of your county team?

The best three (in no order) by some distance would be

    Cork:
    Mike Ross
    ?
    Tony Buckley
    Mick O'Driscoll
    Donnacha O'Callaghan
    Billy Holland
    Peter O'Mahony
    James Caughlan
    Peter Stringer
    Ronan O'Gara
    Tom Gleeson
    Stephen Archer
    Simon Zebo
    Tomas O'Leary
    Scott Deasy

    Limerick:
    Horan
    Flannery
    Hayes
    O'Connell
    Ryan
    ?
    Wallace
    Leamy
    Murray
    Cusack
    ?
    Earls
    ?
    ?
    ?

    Dublin:
    Cian Healy
    Jason Harris-Wright
    Jamie Hagan
    Mark Flanagan
    ?
    Shane Jennings
    Kevin McLaughlan
    Domonic Ryan
    Johnny Cooney
    Johnny Sexton
    Eoin O'Malley
    Brian O'Driscoll
    Fionn Carr
    Felix Jones
    Andrew Conway

    Dublin:

    1. Cian Healy
    2. JHW
    3. Hagan
    4. Kevin McLaughlin
    5. Mark Flanagan
    6. Shane Jennings
    7. Rhys Ruddock
    8. Dominic Ryan

    9. Paul O'Donohoe
    10. Johnny Sexton
    11. Andrew Conway
    12. Eoin O'Malley
    13. Brian O'Driscoll
    14. Felix Jones
    15. Geordan Murphy

Shame about Fitzgerald and Cullen, both would have added to the team and they learned their trade in Dublin, but they both live just outside it. I think it's fair to say though Dublin would have the strongest team.

As is Leamy, and Horan is from Clare.

Hard to work out what's going on with Limerick rugby, the numbers should be there but are they?

I made mistakes too but it has been pointed out that some of those players are not Dubs. Cork have a very balanced team, it would be a close match

I'm sure Frankie Sheehan could still do a job at hooker ????

And the Dublin team could have Stephen Cluxton as cover for Sexton :-)

On same topic I was told there were inter county rugby games played in Ulster back in 1960's but as yet have found no evidence of this.

You're including a lot of Athlone and Ferbane players as Galway. Probable a lot of them were born in Ballinasloe, but didn't grow up in Galway. Otherwise Jamie Heaslip is Tiberias in Israel and ROG is Southern California :)

    Yeah, he's from Bray.

Luke Fitz was born in Cork, but grew up in Wicklow. Leo Cullen & Shane Byrne from Wicklow too.

The two Kearney's are from Louth, Shaggy is from Meath, Gordon d'Arcy from Wexford, Mark Flanagan and Conor Gilsenan (Leinster Academy) are both from Westmeath (as was Conor O'Loughlin), Sean O'Brien & Bernard Jackman both from Carlow, loads of players from Kildare & Dublin, Ian Dowling is from Kilkenny, couple of the Connacht lads from Offaly.

The periphery Leinster counties do actually contribute more players than a lot of people would think.
