    so critieria:
    longish batterlife
    choppy processor
    decent size keybad,
    bluetooth
4 gb ram if possibly can always upgrade

portability--not a 15'' but not as small as netbook

Was thinking along the likes of lenovo, asus, toshiba, etc

    anybody got any recommendations...

    TIA

    Lenovo thinkpad x121e

    Lenovo ideapad s205

    asus eee 1215B
theres also a 1215n version with the N570 atom processor the keyboards on the asus 12inch models aren't supposed to be the best but the unit itself seems pretty good value for money

dabs.ie has a great template system, go to computing at the top of the dabs webpage, select laptops & netbooks and you can choose your criteria there.

also if you go to cnet reviews you can view reviews of different laptops on the market based on the specs you want.

You could do alot worse than the 13.3" z370 from Lennovo (they used to have a black and silver i3 version doesn't seem to be there at the moment, not too keen on the old blue myself :o. The i5 version is what it the regular colurs look like)

The 14" TimelimeX would be a decent bet as well, better battery life, but not as much RAM or HDD space and slightly heavier than the z370 (2.2 vs 2 KG)

This 13.3" Toshiba Satellite is an option too and a decent enough price, but you would probably need to stick another 1 or 2 GB RAM in there yourself (Ram is v cheap nowadays and easy to install)

Evening all, only getting back to you now, have been on holidays for past 2 months ( and now back to work :() but all good things must come to an end.
So in the end opted for the:

    Lenovo IdeaPad Z370

    • Intel® Core™ i5-2430M Dual Core Processor
    • 13.3" HD Screen
    • Windows 7 Home Premium Edition 64-bit
    • 4GB DDR3 RAM
    • 750GB HDD
    • DVD Rewriter
    • Dedicated Graphics
    • M565GUK

Am fairly happy with it, its fairly zippy if there is one complaint, i think its a little heavy other than that its all good and would recommend.

Thanks marco-polo( i got the brownish type one- the pink and blue were a little too out there..)
