Between Jobs and in debt - need help

    Hello members of boards.ie,

I have rent and car insurance bills due, and so far the only way I'm paying for my spending is my credit card. I'm going to reach my credit limit pretty soon. I had a really good job interview on Thursday, but I don't know if I'll get the job. Also, I've applied for Jobseeker's allowance, but I may get a payment in three weeks' time at the earliest. So in conclusion, I may be living on nothing soon. I can't sell the car, because I'll need it for travelling to work. So right now, I have to keep up with rent payments and my car.

My parents could give me some money, but they are also struggling. Is there any place where I could get emergency financial assistance? I tried social welfare, but I'll only get help after having my appointment with them, which will be in a while.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

AFAIK you can go to the community welfare officer who will give you assistance till your dole comes through.Your dole will be backdated to when you first applied for it and any assistance that you have gotten in advance taken out of it and paid back to the CWO.
This is what happened in a family member's circumstances but may be different elsewhere. There's no harm in trying.

You can get emergency financial assistance from the health board. Social welfare can take 2-3 months to come through from the initial application. If you get both, the money you get from the health board will be taken out of your social welfare payments when they come through.

Forget about the car until you have saved enough for insurance.
