From memory it's just a standard long high torque motor.
It's a custom gearbox with a unique piston (longer than V2 or 3) and a unique sector gear. It can be easily modified to use a V2/3 type sector gear and piston but having done it - I'd say not worth the effort...

The gun is really beautifully made and rock solid. The A2 was a slightly improved version of G&G's A1. Essentially they removed a tooth on the piston, changed the cocking lever and added a guard around the mag release to avoid accidental mag releases (much like the real one)

I love bulpup's and was hoping the L85 would provide me with a compact gun which would take stanag mags and which I could use in either CQB or open terrain.
The gun has electric blowback - nice but easily disabled in a couple of minutes (or just by cocking it back). The blowback on the A1 version used to cause the piston to strip - hence the supposed "fixes" on the A2.
(ARMY make an L85A1 - it's an exact clone of the G&G A1 by the way)

The accuracy and range on the gun is fantastic but the kicker for me was the constant gearbox lockups in semi-auto. To unlock - flick to full-auto but I prefer shooting in semi. Guys I know who use the gun - tend to stay in full auto and fire in semi with finger control (bit like the AUG) but it just annoyed me.

I tried loads of mods which were supposed to fix it and while they certainly improved the performance and reliability - none gave me the confidence to use it as my primary.

I loved the gun but for me - it was an expensive wall hanger. I sold it some time ago to a collector in Limerick - he's selling it and a few other guns on again. I can PM you his details if you want.

I'd recommend the gun but if you're into reliable semi-auto consistency - you may be disapointed. Overall I think they are worth the buy.

Here's the manual for the gun

Click on the L85 links to see short vids showing gun takedown, gearbox removal and total disasembly etc...

    Hope this helps.

€320 for a new one seems very good to be honest. They're normally €380.
You should be able to pick a used gun up for about 200-280 depending on what's with it etc...

Try get a close up look and feel of one before you decide - they're a very heavy gun and not to everyones liking.

    Best of luck ;)
