Under Armour all the way. Have a storm suit from them which cost €100. As good as anything I've ever tried. Likewise with their coldgear under layers

I know you basically ruled them out but I got a GG jacket recently, the thing is incredible. Seems to keep you at the perfect temperature, easy to swing in, and hurricane proof.

+1... The Galvin Green gear is ridiculously expensive in Ireland but the stuff is bulletproof.... I'm playing golf for 30 years, a typical gear freak & I've never come across anything like it....

SHOP AROUND!!! There are some great online sellers.

I got this over a year ago and find it very good. I'd a Sunderland Professional GoreTex suit before that for over 10 years which got hugh use both on and off the course and I was looking to buy the same again. The proshop I had the golf voucher with didn't stock Sunderland and was recommending the Mizuno over most of the others in stock so went with it and haven't been disappointed. I've played in some shocking weather and bar water dripping down the collar have been good and dry. I do find it easier to play in than the Sunderland suit as it's alot lighter and the removal arms on the jacket are very handy for summer/spring golf. I find the trousers rather warm during the spring/summer so often don't wear any other trousers undernearth.

It seems this discussion never ends. If you want the best rain gear something that will last for years, keep you perfectly dry and not hinder your swing then gavin green is the best option. No one wants to fork out big money for rain gear particularly if you only play in rain once or twice a year but if you're a winter golfer and your playing in bad weather at least ever other week its a sound investment. If you really can't justify the outlay Proquip and Under Armour are making good suits at the moment and Sunderland is also worth a mention they are a little cheaper than galvin but still relatively expensive its excellent stuff particularly the trousers but the tops are not as good as the galvin stuff in my opinion.

If you CG wet suit lasts for 5+ years and is a pleasure to play golf in - is that not better than buying some crap gear and then replacing it with more new crap wet gear in 2 years?

I have just purchased my second Proquip suit. The first one I bought in 2003 and is still perfectly waterproof, the only reason I replaced it is because the colour has faded badly from washing over the years. This was a gore-tex suit, very comfortable, quiet and kept me dry without overheating.

The suit I've just bought is a Proquip Aquastorm suit. It cost around €115. Again it's very comfortable and quiet, and I've put it to the test a couple of times with perfect results.

Got an Ultralite proquip jacket at start of the summer as I wanted something Lite Enough for warm weather and heavy rain . Wore it on Saturday Morning for 9 holes (course became waterlogged) and never let in a drop .
Also wore it in May in Woodbrook with heavy rain and strong winds and didnt let in a drop.
    Hope this helps.

I have tried Proquip and Mizuno wetgear and found that they were both great until they were washed.

I hand washed them in lukewarm soapy water and found that they both let in water afterwards particularly in the trousers .

I have a ping sleeveless top which is excellent however, but would love to find out which wet gear is the best!

    "Zero Restriction" wet gear
It's great stuff. It's American. I bought a jacket in Limerick over 3 years ago. best gear I've ever had. and about half the price of Galvin Green how bad is that!!

I'd highly recommend ProQuip too. I've got the tour flex suit, their top of the range. It's the one the ryder cup team(s) used in Wales. It's totally breathable and totally waterproof, and it's a great fit for me anyway, and much quieter than some of the gore tex gear. Bought it about a year ago and been through all of last winter and all the rain of this year and it looks as good as new. I've had 2 other pairs of Proquip rain trousers in the past and they were good too. Think i paid about €180 from affordablegolf.co.uk in one of their sales.

Muracan, if they get muddy/dirty, I just throw them in the machine on rinse and spin cycle (without powder etc) and they've always come out good as new so far.

Just for information I was in American Golf in Dundrum today....
They have Sunice Gore Tex rain suit (Similar to GG Paclite) with lifetime waterproof guarantee for €319 - Sale price! Tried it on - liked it :)
Compared to GG price in McGuirks (discounted) of €420.

    On line reviews look good

    (No affiliation BTW!)

I've cut & paste most of this from the last "wet gear" thread

As has been said there are umpteen threads on here on stuff like this

There are plenty of wetsuits on the market without gore-tex,(and/or non Galvin Green) but which are still top,top gear.

    These include
nike stormfit light & Pac Lite
    Callaway Warwick(has gore-tex)
    Mizuno Impermalite
    Stuburt Helium (value option)

a few of these are not the most recent models and can be picked up cheaply on ebay very cheap.
Proquip also do some great gear,
The 2006 european ryder cup team used the proquip silk touch range at the K club. (still on eBay , great suit)
As u know it pissed down quite a bit but it served them well.
it has not got gore-tex but u didn't see the RC team complaining.
Likewise the 2010 european tour team are also using the new proquip tourflex gear...again no goretex.
bide ur time on ebay, u will grab a bargain.
get dn to a shop to check out sizes.

A lot of the Galvin Green gear is great stuff, but it is by no means the bees knees. In a lot of independent tests it doesn't come out best on test.

When Watson sees the wind and rain, he hangs up the clubs.
