Think it normally takes five working days. You could attach a note to the application or get them to print out a confirmation or copy the certificate if you don't get it in time.

Which motor tax office did you go to? In Dundalk applications are taking between 3-4 weeks, and a few other posters have posted here saying it takes similar time for the licence to be sent out. There's a bit of a backlog at the moment, although I'm not sure what's causing the backlog!

Last week one person I know had hers handed to her on the spot... depends on the crowd working there and where you go tbh! Generally the turnaround is quick enough but there's posts on this forum about some taking weeks/months...

Depends entirely on which MTO you go to. Just say it to them that you need it asap and see if they can do anything for you.

You do not currently hold a full license. The certificate of competency does not equal a full license. So technically you are still required to display L plates and have an accompanying driver, who has held his/her license for 2 years, with you at all times.

Would a gardai really think that though? I mean, he's passed the test and all..? At least in Denmark the paper you get right on the spot by the examiner is enough until you get your proper license.

It's the law, so yes they're well entitled to think it and do more than think about it.

Wow that's quick - I knew each MTO was different but didn't think there'd be such large discrepancies between them!

Happy days for you though, congratulations! Use your pink licence well, you'll have it until you're 70 :p
