Anyone know where i could get one of the ear pieces that fit over your ear that leaves off an alarm if you start to fall asleep while driving?

Or any other ideas would be appreciated!

    A passenger?
    Seriously though what is that?

Try to get a good night’s sleep if you know you have a long journey the next day, If you feel sleepy stop in a safe place as you can fall asleep more quickly than you think. A short nap followed by some coffee can help.

Don't pull over on the side of a motorway though

    "Drive Alert 'Nap Zapper'"

Amazon.co.uk sell these if that's what you're looking for.

are they not dangerous? What happens when you doze off and get woken up by suddenly? You get a fright and will lose control of the car.

I think what the other poster recommended would be safer. Pull over when tried, get out walk around, jog on the spot, do stretches, etc...

Even a 20/30 min 'cat nap' would be a better option IMHO than relying on a device which, as has been said, could suddenly startle you.

Don't let time deadlines or driving too long when tired dictate your driving, no matter what, they are not more important than your or someone elses life.

surely you would want the alarm to come on, not be left off

Once you doze off you've already lost control.

I would consider them very dangerous too simply because by using one you're relying on it to stop you nodding off which it doesn't, all it does is alarm after the fact. If you're so tired that you think you need one then you're too tired to drive in the first place.

If you must continue your journey then strong coffee followed by a 10-20 min snooze (parked up of course ;)) while the caffeine kicks in is the recommended action.

Radio turned up & cold air conditioning does the trick nicely imo.

My main problem is the early mornings driving to work, were doing 60 hour weeks and the dark mornings are starting to catch up. Its an hour there and an hour back 6 days of the week.

Get to bed earlier fella, I work silly hours myself. I either start at 5am for the day or work 10pm to 8.30am. It's tough, but getting a proper amount of sleep is the key.

But only for a short while, don't forget the longer you stay awake the more tired you get and no radio or chilly cabin can counteract that.

There's only one way to deal with tiredness effectively and that is rest/sleep.
I remember the AA advising drivers to pull in and get some kip, they advised that 10-20 minutes is sufficient, any longer and you slip into a deeper sleep which can leave you feeling even more tired if you're awakened too soon. The idea of taking the strong coffee beforehand is that it will have taken effect by the time your snooze is over and you'll be more alert.

    Try a Topaz Petrol Station.
    No need for the GPS.

For me, the mornings are not the problem. I am too busy making sure that everyone knows I am there.
