Have an 02 Focus and got it serviced last week. Since then whenever im on a motorway its slightly jumpy. Nothing major and might only happen once in 10 miles but its noticeable. Anyone know what this could be?

    Coil pack?

Coil packs are a common failure on the focus, however if its just been serviced and the issue wasn't there before, then first check if they fitted champion spark plugs and second that they gapped the plugs correctly as both can cause running issues on the focus.

Thanks lads..will check when i bring it back on wednesday to get the timing belt done. Took out again today and no jumping at all tho. Now my locks are playing up. Think it may be time to upgrade

Make sure they have the correct tools to change the timing belt, the amount of focus's I've see where people have tried to mark the timing pulleys with tippex is ridiculous!

I have been through 2 coil packs on my focus in the space of 5 years . The jumpiness is a signal of it and there can be other signal such as a bit of a power gap in the low revs , not a big job if it is the coil pack but dont get ripped off the parts are cheap and its a quick job

How much roughly are we talking? Any danger in driving the car with this problem?

If it is the coils and im not saying it is as it could be something related to the work done. The most i paid for that work was 130 for parts and labour and that was only cause i was in a rush needed the car for work if you went looking id say you could find cheaper.

i got a coil pack for the mk2 focus for 50 delivered from micksgarage, its 57 for the mk1

the MAF could be the culprit aswell, to check just disconnect the wire with the car running

So brought my focus back in on wednesday to get the new timing belt and explained to the mechanic about my problem. He found a split piece of tubing which he replaced. Back on the motorway last night and still have this slight jumpy feel when hitting around 60/70 mph. Its hard to explain but its like its struggling to get power for maybe half a second and only happens when going over 60mph and doesnt happen every time i go over 60mph.
