    Hi all,

Took up the carpet in one of the bathrooms yesterday and planning on sanding & varnishing the existing floor boards.

Ive been left with the adhesive residue from the underside of the carpet.

I assume il be able to get this off wit the sander? Photos here.

Any one got any tips/tricks/things to watch out for when doing this work in general?

    Cheers

Should come off with any decent sander.
Use 36 grit paper first for rough sanding, then 60 grit paper. you'll also need to buff between each coat. rent both these machines out, also you'll need an edger for close to the skirting and a handscraper for the corners. put on three coats of good quality varnish (mylands) 2 pack lacquer is very good ( but smelly) get satin or gloss depending on which finish you want.
Tips: Make sure finish is smooth before the last coat and always vaccum well or you will have problems.

For hygiene reasons i would rather tile a bathroom floor than sand and varnish
