Phoenix Park Roadworks

Just found this handy wee map on phoenixpark.ie for those interested of the road closures to be put in place over the next few months in the park. A lot of one way action going on. It seems that the main inconvenience is the severe lack of parking with Chesterfield Avenue completely closed.

All the way to Jan, at least it will be over and done with by the time next marathon training schedule is in full swing

Car traffic on the Kyber Pass, nooooo....

I was thinking of that, there will be much higher levels of traffic on all the roads around the edge of the park for the next few months. Every single road will have traffic, even those normally blocked off to traffic.

With regard to next weeks final long run for many DCM people, is there anywhere else accessible for many people we could do our the LSR's?

Might be a good one for some inspiration: http://www.irishtrails.ie/Trail_User_Advice/Green_Loop_Trail/ . There are some bits that don't look nice at all (running down Inchicore Road and up the Navan Road for instance) but enough good bits that you could stitch together to form your own route. If it was running it, I would head to Ashtown and join the Royal Canal there rather than running up the Navan road and joining at Castleknock. Last year, I parked the car at the 12th Lock pub and ran to Maynooth and back along the Royal Canal as an LSR. That was really nice.

I guess they won't be working on the weekend anyway, so we could run along the path up and down Chesterfield.
Or if you're looking for another route for next week, how about running along the marathon route?

Actually I was thinking, with many of the formerly two lane roads now one-way, will the closed off lane be available for joggers and cyclists to use?

I was in the park at lunchtime and they have started to dig the roads, Paths both side are clear for running.

Was running there after 5:30 this evening. Traffic doesn't seem too bad in the Park at all actually. I think most people are avoiding the Park on account of the works. Having the Ashtown and Cabra gates one way helps to push people out onto Blackhorse avenue as well I reckon.

Apologies for resurrecting an old thread but does anyone know if the roads in the park are fully open again yet?

Seemed to be yesterday. Chesterfield is fully open and the Kyber is now closed to cars. The last stretch was going towards Garda HQ from Chesterfield and they're finished now. The new road makes an awesome cycling surface. :D

Chesterfield Ave is open again but there's bollards up in a couple of places around Military Road. Also bollards on Odd Lamp road. Don't know if the bollards are permanent, I'm not overly familiar with the park but had reason to be chatting to one of the park rangers last Friday :o and got the impression that they're trying to keep the traffic to the main roads.

thanks. It was the Khyber I was interested in. I can now do hill repeats on it again. Not 100% sure that's a good thing though...

The bollards used to be on the Military Road to prevent it from being a through road for traffic so I'm assuming it's reverted to that.
