Honestly? Useless presenter is the general consensus, look at Mike Murphy who was on the late late tonight, a true entertainer and gent, and if hes as hard up for cash as he says he is, hed jump at the chance to present the late late for the kind of money tubbs makes, I know id tune in every friday night! Anyone else agree hed be much better value?

7 candidates there and it was Tubridy who was the biggest loser after that "debate"

Well as a tv licence holder i do, as it seems like such a waste of cash employing tubbs to bore the nation to sleep on a friday night

I'd actually pay NOT to see the dainty little whatyoumaycallhim....he's offensive and incompetent. Zig and Zag would be more entertaining, certainly more charasmatic

I somehow get the feeling Tubs will be there in 40 years, the same way Gay Byrne is presenting shows ad nauseum even though he "retired" in 1999.

I agree I like Mike, he's got great natural charisma and showmanship. He has been off the radar for so long now that he never even entered my thinking as a possible replacement for Tubs. Would his age be a factor though? he must be over 70 by now.

What? WHAT!! Murphy's Micro Quiz-m was the height of RTE's programming.

    Go wash out your mouth!

there was certain questions asked to certain candidates and not others and why? Tubs has left himself open to criticism and rightly so. Rte will deny it but there was a question on Gay Adoption which was not asked to Gay Mitchell and another. I laughed when Mitchell was giving out to Mc Guinness about refering to Ireland as the 22 counties and refering to some people as West Brits. Well the 22 counties blunder sums up the West Brit very well. I wonder which 4 counties he and FG have partitioned off

Pity no one had the stones to ask Tubs about his own wage

Not. His mannerisms and habits (em, em ,em etc.) would be just as annoying as Tubridy's after a month.

Mike Murphy was cool tonight, and not in the least bit fazed by the pretender.

How did it all go wrong for Mick? I seem to remember his last ll appearance where the vibe was he was going to be a squillionaire thanks to City west or Park west or into the west or something west

    Why do we tolerate Tubridy?

For any society which has tolerated what we Irish have experienced in the past is it any wonder?

From an abusive absolutist church to crooked politicians to corrupt bankers that have sold this country into debt slavery for generations.

We will continue to "tolerate" Tubridy. If RTE hiked the TV licence by 50% and replaced Tubridy on a Friday night with the picture of the girl and clown from BBC in the eighties we woul "tolerate" that too.

Its the guests he has on when ever I do see it. Just rubbish guests. Paddy Doherty was his best guest in ages.

Great, so now we're welcoming money grabbing b***ds like Mike Murphy? I almost have more respect for those who aren't so blatantly cheeky about it

lost all respect for tubbs after the ronan keating interview, how he sat there and let keating make himself out to be the victim was spineless stuff

Well RTE contacted him about doing the new interview series. Murphy's fallen on hard times needs the money and agreed to do it. I don't see how that makes him a money grabbing bastard.

Fallen on hard times because of his own misguided property ventures -pardon me while I don't weep. In one sense, it's a good thing that this recession has brought high-faluting idiots back down to earth

We tolerate him largely as we are paralysed by our own guilt that we didn't write a book review & send it in to Poparama when we were 12 years old... or go to UCD & make witty remarks that got us into the L&H or whatever soc that (fwankly ghastly) place has. We didn't develop an interest in US History & Politics while developing a sense of cool like the Rat Pack combined with an almost Milligan-esque shtick (which never crossed the boundary of good taste nonetheless) when hosting our breakfast radio show, which we never got to host anyway as we never made the tea as we never wrote that fu.cking book review for Ruth f.uc.king What's-her-name when we were 12 years old....

As if that wasn't enough, we are further crippled by the knowledge that if we are in some way related to British Aristocracy, it is likely to be through the never openly acknowledged rape of one of our female ancestors...

There's more... but I can no longer see what I am typing through the tears of knowing that I will never be one of the greats of my generation of Irish people, like Tubridy.

In fairness did dana come across any better. She looked out of her depth, I really think she is in her own world and wouldn't be capable of any holding any position.
