My daughter has moved to live in Canada and in order to sort out her motoring there she needs to get a Driving Abstract from Ireland. Where or how would you go about getting that?? I'm not sure what it even is!

It's a record of your driving history ( any points/convictions on your license)

    The Gardaí should provide it

Thank you! I will contact the Gardai and see what they have to say:)

Your local council offices should be able to give you what you need.

Bit confused now!:o For the posts above do I understand that I need both the Gardai and the Local Authority?

I got one last year from my council offices. Same one that issued my licence. That is where you need to go.

Sorry to dredge up an old post but:

I had to do this recently myself.

The NDLS have taken this function over from the councils now. If you phone them, they will post it out to the address on your licence. They will want your driver details from the licence so make sure you have it handy.

The phone number is on their website: www.ndls.ie.

What kind of information they provide?
I assume they only have access to convictions and penalty points.
They wouldn't have access to claims history I'd imagine.

They give you a printout of your "driving history" from the official licence records. It shows when you got your licence, what categories you have and any special conditions (eg: automatics only/must wear glasses/etc) and what endorsements or points or convictions you have.

Nothing to do with insurance, so claims etc are not in it.

Just want to post this for anyone who comes to the page in the future.

The NDLS Site gives all the information required for this on how to obtain one including contact details.

Letter of Entitlement / Driver Statement
A letter of entitlement or driver statement refers to a copy of a driver record with details of name, address, date of birth, driver number, date of expiry of licence and class of licence to include details of what that class refers to.

How to obtain a Driver statement / letter of entitlement

The individual themselves can request a drivers statement (letter of entitlement) to be sent out to them by phoning 0761087880 or email info@ ndls.ie Information regarding a driver will not be sent to a third party.
The fee for a driver statement is €15.

Has anyone had an issue with the fact that the NLDS do not issue original letters with a wet ink signature? I'm based in Toronto and got the letter emailed to me in PDF. The MTO do not accept emailed copies of a Certificate of Entitlement, it must be the original document to be accepted. I spoke with the NLDS and they would only send a letter to my home address but all it would be is a print out of what they already emailed me and would cost me another 15 euro.

If the print out they send is on header paper with a hologram etc, it might have a little more weight behind it. That or have it witness by a Garda station e.g. Stamped and have it sent over to you.

Has anyone here requested the Letter of Entitlement from NDLS recently?

Will they email it to you in Canada and will the emailed copy be accepted by Service Canada?

Any recent info would be appreciated. (I'm in Alberta so no reciprocal agreement here yet.)

    Orange pilled.
