Not sure if this is in the right section but anyway

Was driving the aul one's honda civic- there was about a tenners worth of diesel left and stupidly put 50quids worth of petrol on top of it. I then drove it for about two mins to the house -1km max.

Anyone idea how bad this is ? how much it will cost and any numbers ?

i take it you mean there was diesel in it?

don't drive it again, contact fuelrescue.ie and they'll sort it, if they can't you dont pay. exact same thing happen to the mothers car not a week ago, drove it a mile and all.

A mobile mechanic would probably sort it cheaper....

Actually it may be worth examining the underside of the tank. There may be a drain plug you could release and remove the fuel yourself.

If the car hasn't broken down it probably hasn't made it into the fuel pipes.

easy enough to jack the car up, unbolt the plug and drain it

I assume you put diesel on top of petrol, either way on that type of car find the inlet pipe from the tank to the engine under the bonnet and find a hose that will squeeze over it, then un clip it and use the pump in the tank to empty it's self..

#ye but i drove it . when i went back out to start it it didnt start. so i would have thought that meant it had gone through the engine and could have done damage

petrol into diesel and drove it for nearly 1km

bearing in mind i'm a complete 'tard when it comes to anything mechanical, is this a do-able job................................i mean total cabbage

Ah you didn't say that though.

In that case you could try drain it but I'd nearly advise sending it to a garage and not bothering with a fuel rescue or anyone else as there may be damage done already.

    Hopefully not though

Lol happens the best dude, get a mate that knows a bit and he should be able to empty it via the method I mentioned, then load it with diesel and all should be sweet..

ye same with my mother, drove it, turned it off, wouldn't start. fuel rescue did it for €227 which is a lot but it took 30 min and they come to wherever you are, sort it and put 10 litres of fuel in after. very reliable, know others who use them as well. no affiliation

Just get as much out as you can then fill to the lugs with diesel, when you get it started it will be smokey and knocky , take it handy and real easy it should be fine..

Yea I'm hearing you man, but has worked for me many times with no fail, worth a shot..;)

Edit: Me helping other lads out not filling up me motor with wrong fuel..;)

I did this once early one morning - filled a golf diesel with unleaded - luckily I copped on as it was almost full.

I tried the hosepipe and mint trick but did not have the minerals to take a mouthful. Found a mechanic who had a small hand pump thing which I put over a length of hose and it worked a charm.

As the lads have said empty as much out as possible and then refill and keep the fingers crossed.

    Best of luck.
