Michael D. Higgins Individual Interview Late Late ... Some say that he is too much of an academic, could be too old and this could go against him, others say that he is articulate and interesting and has a vast experience in politics that will be to put to good use as President- how do you think he did?

Probably the second-best interviewee.....I'm all confused now, but I still reckon I might give him the not above Dana, despite her strong showing.......Michael D is the least objectionable candidate - sad that that's the main criteria for choosing a president - and isn't beholden to terrorists, a disgraced church, FF, a blinkered "entrepreneur" ethos, and hasn't written letters to help murderers or to help child rapists.

Reverted to old habit, waffling too much.

I think he would make an excellent president, as he said in the interview he knows the system so he would know how to get the most out of it. The fact that he is outspoken is great too, at least he is not a yes man. His age isn't an issue as it is clear that he is still very passionate and in touch with what is going on. Definately getting my vote

Yeah, he did ok, nothing spectacular, but kinda 'nice' and appealing - I don't think he has an agenda going into the Presidency - I won't be voting for him, because he just screams 'I've earned it...' but I certainly wouldn't be sad if he won either..I don't think he would be a President that misrepresented the position - he would be satisfactory and fulfill the role.

Thought he was impressive but wont be making my mind up until nearer the election.

He came across well, as he always does, but was clearly the favoured RTE candidate and given a free ride.

He held up well under a targetted rte agenda to play him in the worst possible light, much the same as McGuinness was targetted.

Jeez you're mad for the RTE agenda tonight...

Aye only because it was as clear as day versus night. It was the most partially moderated debate I have ever seen.

He did well, but he had an easy interview. He didn't have anything to trip up on.

Didn't set the world on fire tonight, and perhaps was a little ponderous in his answers, but there's no doubt that he understands the role and the limitations of the office, unlike some of the other candidates.

    I agree with the above

Was quite impressed with him. He'd be a safe President anyway. Can't imagine there's too many skeletons in his closet.

Didn't he say he was going to ball after the debate! Age seems to be a mere number to him. i think his vigour is an inspiration to older people.
Also, while there maybe the whiff of i've earned this about him, i think he has earned it given his years of political service. He is the ideal candidate because he knows what the duties and fuctions of a president are. He also has the personality to be a perfect fit for a largely ceremonial role. If there was one negative to him being elected president, it is that he might as an independent minded person feel constrained and frustrated in the role at times.

Still, all things considered, I will probably be voting for him.

    Thought he did well tonight.

Liked his finishing remarks, said he loves Ireland and you know its true.

Some people saying he got an easy ride, maybe thats cos he has less skeletons in his closet than the rest of them.

I'd never call myself a labour supporter but he's a decent man.

I had nedver seen him as a serious candidate untill i started listening to interviews today and yesterday and he is looking more and more like my number 1 on the day.

He did well tonight but may have come across as a bit quiet and boring but as said he knows exactly what the job requires and a lot of the time it involves boring stately duties.

A good man, I was quiet surprised by his energy and sharp mind, He should have ran in 97 and I reckon I'll be giving him a preference.

I think Higgins is like Dev.

    I won't be giving him a vote.

Want to explain that further as in what way?

At the moment he is the only candidate I think who can speak well enough to get the presidency but I'm open to seeing the bad points of the man to see if I need to change my mind.
