Hi guys i took out a home policy with quinn direct about 2 months ago, on my rented apartment, mainly cos I've my own stuff in it, computers, tv's beds etc...

Last night I was setting up my computer into a new desk when the tower part fell out of my hand and broke up in s**t. I left it into a repair shop and they said that there was a hairline crack in the mobo and its f**ked, i never copped it!

I will ring quinn in the morning, but i never claimed on a policy before, so im nervous as to what to say... Do i simply say it fell and broke or will i be wasting my time as they may demand receipts etc?

I built the computer myself about a year ago and it cost me around 1700, its a high end machine, so just really looking for advice guys...

    thanks

I'd advise you to prepare the specifications of your computer. I had an issue with my laptop a while back and needed to claim on house insurance. They found a laptop with similar (but slightly lower) specifications and they used that as a valuation rather than the cost.

You should remove your post before someone from Quinn Direct reads it. Many individuals have had claims refused because of posting on boards. You did not obtain the policy through a broker and so you will have difficulty getting paid at all.

If you have Accidental Damage on your policy then it will be covered if you tell them it fell.

Every insurer is dirt. They are a business at the end of the day. They genuinely don't like paying out on claims as obvious as that may seem. People do seem to forget that though.

    Be honest.

And if you feel they have treated you unfairly - go to the ombudsman.
